What year truck do you have? Go into your user control panel here on the site and fill in your signature. That's where you put the year model, mods and such about your truck. This carries to each posting.

The boot over the 4x4 shifter on my 04.5 is held in place with a kind of spring on one end, you just pull up on it to remove. If you are wanting to remove the cup holder assembly there is a screw under the 4x4 shifter boot and the far right cup holder rubber mat, and I think the other one is under the rubber mat on the far left forward compartment, But mine is the six speed, not sure if it is the same for auto.

I would like to get this loose so I can remove it I want to install a custom gauge pod

Ok, pop the cap off the top of the shifter knob, underneath is a nut (12mm i think) once you take the nut off the knob itself will screw off. the boot itself (not the plastic housing) should be held in place with a spring clip. You should be able to put something underneath the edge of the boot and pop it off. ( thats the way mine is) Hope this helps

Is the black flexy rubber part just clipped into the gray plastic? I have the dash knob for my transfer case, but my shifter has a similar looking thing and it just picks up with a little tug.

The nut on the 4x4 shift knob is a 15mm. The whole boot and plastic bezel comes up. Be careful as one end has the spring clip and the other end has a hook. I have bent the hook but it straightens back. Sorry but I forget which end has the hook. The above picture doesn't have the tray like my 2007, 5.9, G56 has. On trucks with a tray, there IS a bolt under the 4x4 boot that you have to undo to remove the tray, 4 bolts in total with 8mm heads. 5/16" socket is the same size as 8mm.
