Well, it's taken me long enough, but I'm finally here. :D A couple of years ago, when I was in the market for a truck, I told myself the only thing I would settle for was a Superduty diesel. I ended up with a 2000 2500 Ram V10. For the past couple of years I have kicked myself in the A** for making that decision; however, a month ago I was able to right the wrong. After hearing all the hype about the V10 and how it could pull "Anything" I was sorely disappointed when I bought a 25' TT and it didn't perform as billed. Those diesel owners whom I associate with all said the same thing, "You should have got a diesel. "

Now that I have finally done what I should have in the first place, it feels good. The wait was worth it; however, the price to pay was a bit steep, at a $6k loss on the other truck. The sorry part is it seems to be worth it. I've been reading on this site for a few months now and one thing seems to be true, you guys and gals are like one big, mostly happy, family. If someone has a problem, the forum responds. Unlike the V10 site where it sits idle day in and day out.

So, bear with me while I get settled in here. I will do my best to search previous topics as to not beat a dead horse; however, I'm sure I'll slip up every now and then.

And by the way, go easy on the BOMBing suggestions. My wife has already threatened to sever my manhood:mad: if I even dream of it. For now, anyway.

Welcome aboard, you have made a wise decision. Good job Grasshopper:D :D

:D Mostly happy:D Iwould say we ARE a happy family, just have a few strongly worded disagreements now and again.

BOMBing suggestions? Now do you really believe comp box that we would suggest HX40 to you seeing that you are new 4" exhaust, turbo back for you to start BOMBing injectors on our first post to you?   :D

Welcome aboard, and maybe soon welcome to the "Dark Side" (BOMBing)

dziegler,

Attaboy!! Ya done good!:D:D:D

Also welcome to another Californian who lives away from the rat race. Long live the state of Jefferson!:D

Welcome! Like you I am a previous V-10 owner. At @ 34,000 miles I had to have both heads replaced under waranty because they had cracked. At 37,000 miles I threw a rod bearing while towing on an extended vacation in the Seattle area. Dodge stood behind the thrown rod bearing even though I was out of warranty in time and miles.

I was afraid to keep the V-10 after all the problems since it was now officially out of warranty and there was no way of knowing how much longer Dodge would stand behind the motor. So I shifted my thought process to the diesel--something I had repeatedly argued I would never do.

I have not yet had a meanigful opportunity to pull my 5th wheel to determine the pulling difference between the V-10 and the diesel. Am anxious to see the difference. Frankly, I was happy with the V-10 until it started to fall apart. And guess what? After I traded the V-10 in it was found to need a new rear end too.

Since I have a 26' 5th wheel I will be anxious to hear from you what you think the difference is between the V-10 and the diesel.

Welcome to TDR as for your wife, there is no such thing a BOMBing, remember these words PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE. When (not if) you NEED to do some, let us know;) ;)

f¡TÕ?ziegler! I'm sure you'll make up that $6,000 pretty quickly in gas money saved over that V-10! Of course you might have to "allocate" a little of that dough for some judicious bombing!

I'm a new forum member also, although I've owned my '95 for a year and a half now, and also have subscribed to TDR for a year and a half.

I used to be a confirmed Chevy Nut. Owned several restored '54 Chevy trucks. And I liked them, but I LOVE my Dodge/Cummins!

The kind old guy I bought my '95 from was taking medication, and unfortunately couldn't remember much about the truck. The day I drove off with it, I had no idea what that little chrome switch next to the O. D. lockout button was for. That switch certainly was a mystery!! What saved me was that the truck came with 4 back issues of the TDR. Thank my lucky stars! I subscribed immediately and haven't looked back.

Welcome dziegler

You have definatly made a smart decision.

I also almost made the same mistake before i bought my Ram. I had my heart set on the V-10. I had a $20,000 bass boat that I had to sell so that I could buy the truck. Thank God it took 6 months to sell. Gave me allot of time to research and learn. A good friend had a 92 Ram / cummins and kept telling me how well it towed and about his 20 mpg plus. I just kept saying yea right, imposible.

Then we were side by side one winter day in a big parking lot plowing snow. He could plow circles around my Chevy! After awhile I just stoped and rolled down my window and sat there listening to that Cummins sing! My decission was made.

You'll love towing with your Cummins. Unlike a gasser you are always in the power band.

Quote: (Unlike the V10 site where it sits idle day in and day out. ) They don't have time to get on the computer, they're at the gas station! LOL

Have fun and just lay low for awhile on the BOMBing... ... ...

welcome

and congratulations on the world's best diesel in a pick up.

One difference from the V-10 towing you don't have to worry about taking it easy so your mileage doesn't suffer.

Cummins loves to tow and can take it pretty well.

Now throw and edge-ez and that Cummins will need an exhaust brake to slow her down up those hills:D :D

By the way this is and Ez BOMBing suggestion:rolleyes:

I'm pretty sure you know about the No long idle specially cold. Also remove that stupid breather bottle so your front end will stay nice and clean and don't forget to pull something heavy and hard for brake in. Don't get disappointed at the low power for the first 10k or so until she brakes in, after that she will be a total different truck. Don't hesitate to ask these guys for anything that you might need, we all tend to slip once in a while. :)

Good luck and enjoy that new ride.

Hey it's Christmas

Just tell your wife that your family has a new female member, and she needs some accessories to look good, especially going into the new year.

Dziegler – Welcome. I am also relatively new to the TDR and diesels in general. My preference was a Ram with the correct number of valves. :D

I have had a 76 GMC (with training wheels & 454) for about 17 years, my pride and joy, favorite toy. I finally got out of it. :(

I am trying to convince my wife that this B. O. M. B. ing thing is simply a Diesel tune-up done in stages. ;) This time of the year, she complains how cold it is when she rides in my Ram.

She cannot understand that the passenger side window must be down so the driver can hear the turbo. :D :D

Hey if you got power windows it works great for those times when you want that beautiful 4" exhaust sound and the heated seats will keep your but warm on those winter days. The airhorns or well, will keep somebody's ears warm if they don't have a heart failure before it. Smooth truck=less wind resistance=really inexpensive bombed Hp:rolleyes: as far for BOMBed sun glasses they could be expensive;)

Dziegler- Welcome! Don't worry, after you slap in a 4 inch exhaust and take your first trip down town on a friday night, all the attention and stares may change your wife's perspective. It's all good believe me, before I got my truck my 22 year old female cousin would always say-why do you want to drive some thing that sounds like a farm tractor? Everytime a Cummins passed by, NOW, she's practically begging me to teach her how to drive a manual transmission because she wants all the "Fast and the Furious" men to drool over a women in a "Big and the Powerful" Dodge. Anyway Welcome aboard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome aboard from another ex-V-10 owner. We ran 45,000 miles pulling 5vers with our 1996 3500. It was a good, reliable truck, had great acceleration but it drank the fuel and wouldn't hold speed on hills worth a darn with a heavy 5ver!

After getting our 2002 Cummins rigged up for 5ver towing, there's absolutely no comparison. This thing will pull the 5ver up hills in the Texas Hill Country at 65 MPH in 6th at 1/2-2/3 throttle that were 50-55 MPH in 2nd (automatic/3. 54 rear axle) and 3500 RPM with the V-10, and the Cummins will give over 50% better mileage while doing it! :D
