-they say to much play. It just turned in 50,000 on the odometer what in the world is going on? If I have to replace them do you recommend SpynYec or Dynatrac Free Spin or OEM. I can't believe that could be a problem this soon! My Suburban got over 160,000 mile before the unit bearing on one side needed replacement. ARG!

My '01 and later, the '06 each developed a little slack in the front wheel bearings at around 210,000 miles. Each time I had my mechanic buddy replace both front hubs. My trucks are highway driven.

It is abnormal for the bearings to become worn and develop slack at only 50k but I suppose it is possible. I recommend you jack up the front end and check the side to side play yourself. If you prefer, take it it to another mechanic and ask for a second opinion. Dealer service departments occasionally need more billable hours.

mine wheel bearing went @ 60K am i meant split apart on the highway. the truck jumped a half of lane left and i had this immediate grinding noise, pretty scary when i had no waring.

I have heavy bumper with winch.

Sounds like the way one went on the '05 Silverado I used to own. Drivers side went with very little warning and sounded like I wasn't even going to be able to get it off the road.

Knock on wood, I haven't had one go on either of our 3rd gens. It's very surprising with the '04. 5 with the number of miles on it and the fact that it pushes a plow all winter.

I've sold a lot of these, and replaced them on my trucks and have pressed them apart... . I can tell you that they have very little grease from the factory... the ones I sold, we had the vendor add additional grease and we specified a full synthetic grease with a high drop point...

On the truck listed below, we pressed one apart to see if the guys posting here we're right, in that you can add additional grease with the ABS sensor removed... We pressed one apart, inspected it, greased it and reinstalled it, oh about 60K miles ago I guess... . but we did verify that if you have the rotor off, pull the ABS sensor and add grease... it will work its way through the housing to both bearings... We added about 3 table spoons, again of a full synthetic grease with a high drop point... .

I hope this helps...
