security shutdown and disabled engine
I inadvertently tripped the security eng disabled. Any one know how to reset it? Was installing mech fuel pressure gauge and opened door tripping alarm. After installing gauge i tried to bump the starter to finish priming gauge lineand pump didn't run. I think the theft thing disabled the fuel system. I can reset the alarm system but the eng is still disabled. This is Garyf's other post bg

The system has to be disabled either by pressing the unlock button on the transmitter or by sticking your key in the driver side door and locking/unlocking it. Until you do one or the other I think the truck will remain disabled.

sorry if i make mistakes on this forun. trying to figure how to reply

The system has to be disabled either by pressing the unlock button on the transmitter or by sticking your key in the driver side door and locking/unlocking it. Until you do one or the other I think the truck will remain disabled.

I have done all things i can possibly do. Even disconnected battery over night. The alarm part works, door locks and unlocks with fob, can trip security alarm again but there is an engine immobilization system if someone tries to start truck when alarm is tripped. I believe it shuts of the fuel pump. There isn't pump running. No power to pump. I swapped relays around. Checked all fuses. NADA

There was some mention on the internet that it has to be reset by dealer with their scan tool. Some mentioned that the pcm oe ecm might havevto be changed.

I can't imagine a properly functioning security system to need reset by the dealer if its been set off....

Did you bump the starter and then listen for the fuel pump to cycle?

When you turn the key forward does the antitheft light in the truck flash red?

Sorry I can't be of more help, I have not owned a 2nd gen with an anti theft system so I'm not real familiar with the way they work. Hopefully someone else will see this and chime in.

That is the problem. I thinkk the anti-theft thing immobilized the fuell pump. The pump isn't getting the signal to run from the ecm. I in process of making up a bypass jumper to test the fuel pump to make shure it is ok. I had run the truck about 2 hours before i tripped the security.

Either that or the LP circuit fried itself in the process. It should only run a couple seconds after a key on signal or you could have starting problems. Something like 3 seconds to prime the system then it should quit.

What brand of anti-theft system is it?

It is the factory security system. I think there is two parts of the system. One is the horn honking lights flashing thing. The second part is the engine dis-abeling if some one tries to start the truck when the alarm is activated. The horn honking has been reset and that all works ok. The ecm that shut down the fuel pump has not been reset. There isn't any power to the. No one seems to know if that can be cleared with towing to dealer.

Are you using the original factory ignition key that has chip in the key, as this is only key that works. I had a '98 and trip the alarm once and when through h... getting to reset with wrong key.

I did tow a Chev to the garage once because it wouldn't start. Got there and put the spare key, the customer gave me, into the ignition and the car started. Then tried the customer's primary key and no start. Try the spare key.

The key doesn't have a chip. The key fob only operates the door locks and security system. No codes are thrown. I guess i'm going to bite the bullet and have it towed to dodge.

Do you have a service manual Gary?

I just looked through mine real quick and there isn't a whole lot of info on it. Basically states if armed the red LED light will be flashing. If not then it is disarmed. Fuse 12 (10 amp) powers up the security system.
What did you find when you jumped the fuel pump? Did it activate the pump? How about checking for voltage at the truck side of the harness? There won't be voltage there with the key simply being on, you have to physically bump the starter for the ecm to send voltage to the lift pump.

I jumped the pump with 12v. Pump built up pressure and works. No output from ecm to fuel pump or fuel injection pump.
