Amzoil Question

Stacks with "Silent Choice"

Well I have to say I am impressed, I think its time to piggy back a timing device to my truck.

Best dyno run with my setup: 485 hp 1026. 5 ft lbs.

Best dyno run with the Sticks EZ piggy backed on jumper setting 3: 520 hp 1058 ft lbs.

Oo. Oo.

I gotta say I am impressed, I didnt think that box could add that much !!!

Jeff

OK, I am sold on the timing addition along with serious fueling added compliments of my FMS Premium.

My Question is, which box will better compliment my setup. The only boxes I know of that are timing only are the VA and the EZ (or the DD version too. ) Which would give more power and compliment my FMS setup better?

Jeff, it looks like you gained 35hp and 32 lb-ft. Look closely at those numbers. What rpm were your peak numbers coming? It is VERY unusual to gain more hp than tq on our diesels because of the low rpm range. In fact, at 2626 rpm, you should have a 2:1, tq:hp ratio.

Your numbers tell me that you gained quite a bit of tq in the upper rpm range-- much more than a mere 32 lb-ft. If for example, your hp peak occurred at 3000 rpm, then your torque increase at peak hp is closer to 50lb-ft.

So now *I* would ask myself why I increased torque in the upper rpm range, and only had a paltry 32 lb-ft down low?

I would not be so quick to consider your stack a "success", per se. 32lb-ft on a truck that's already over 1000 lb-ft is hardly a considerable improvement.

With stg 3 injectors, I would say that a very MODEST timing box is what you want, if anything at all. The DDTTPM is about the only thing I would even consider.

Your ratio of hp to tq gains tells me you are borderline on excessive timing. Remember that your injectors are acting as a slight timing advance.

Remember too, that as your injectors wear and the pop-off pressure drops, that will also have the effect of advancing timing.

I would not consider a $400+ timing box worth it for a mere 35hp/32 lb-ft.

If I were at your stage in the bombing game, I would check out a water or water/methanol injection system first-- especially here in the high and dry air.

Sorry I couldn't make it down to dyno with you guys!!!! I was previously committed to doing some work at our church, and I had a certain DT profab product to install:). Did you guys show those PSDs just what our lowly little 6-bangers can do??

I see your point Hohn, the truck was on a dynojet which compares against speed, not RPM's so tracking that would be difficult. Even if I was to drive on the highway at the speeds this was calculated at it would not be accurate as the Dynojet loads arent like driving on pavement. Interesting thing was I made these numbers with only 21 lbs of boost. I wish we could have put on the dynojets brakes just a little cuz I know had I been able to get some more boost, theres more in there cuz it smoked like a mother! My reply simply states that I was suprised that there could be that much different just with playing with the timing of the truck up high. I had Sticks EZ on my truck months ago and with this setup it was difficult to feel much by seat of the pants. I am stoked because it took me over the 500 hump with back to back runs less than 1 hp apart from each other so I know its legit.

Oh believe me, Water Meth has been on my list of "to- do's" for quite some time!! Oo. Oo. Oo.

Along with Twins, Cam, O-Ring, Billet Shafts, ... ... ... ... ... ... sigh

This is where the "ON - OFF" switch for the EZ might be interesting to try, but I am not sure I would want to do that while running a hard acceleration and click it on at 2200 rpm's.

Remember that the average going dollar per HP is about $10, so if you decide to stick a timing box on there, try to find one for $300.

What did the hp and tq curves look like between the two runs (with and without the EZ)? Was there a noticeable difference between the two other than the peak?

Scan you results and post 'em if you can.

Ill try and scan it in today if I can. Suprisingly the numbers were close all the way thru just the peak HP and Torque was up at roughly the same place as the peak was on the other runs.

Jeff

Well, I am glad that you have achieved a goal you have set. I know that I personally would LOVE to break 500hp. In fact, that's MY goal. Sadly, I need more fuel... . and then more air... . and then more fuel... . and then a clutch... and then more...

Justin

Something to consider...

My experience on the dyno with the EZ is the biggest difference in HP occurs at 2000 rpm. At that point the improvement over stock is nearly 70 HP. The curve tapers pack 50% as you reach peak HP rpm.

Just guessing here, but I believe at 2000 your getting the max amount of fuel the computer on the pump will allow, plus timing. Then at peak rpm we are just benefiting from the advanced timing alone. Hence the decrease in HP.

Hope this helps :)

Time for you to make a gallery in Readers Rigs. It's not too picky about size.

HVAC,

I'm not sure, the dyno sheet doesn't show rpm's... shows speed tho. . at 85 mph... 2200, 2300??

The EZ belongs to the Texas tornado... so... ;)

That's a lil higher RPM then I would have guessed. 85 could be 2300 depending on gearing.

So, ya got the "Tornado's" EZ eh? I better warn him to put the dog near the garage instead of out back!:D

Watchout cause when he gets that vortex turbo up to attack mode, stuff that ain't bolted down ends up landing in Oklahoma:-laf :-laf
