The mother of all swaps?

I may be smoking crack here but dimensionally would a 1st gen body fit on top of a 2nd gen frame? (extended cab 4wd, dually)

I ask this as I want a late model transmission, motor, transfer case, seat etc... . And as I was thinking, I thought it would be easier to place my body on top of a decent frame. I do not have access to a second gen. for measurement purposes.

And yes I know. This would require alot of work, but I have time. I also have the space and necessary tools. The only thing that I would not want to do is have to resection the frame.

But would that not be cool? I would get to keep my 1st gen body style but have all the factory upgrades. What forum would I belong to then?

I don't know if it would work or not, but it would be nice to get the upgraded drivetrain, brakes, etc. Hmmm... ...



Probably a good thing I don't have the time or space (or ambition) to do such a swap.

Not only did my soon to be wife not let me sell this truck, but she has even given a tacit nod to my thoughts. That's if I can find a clean frame and drive train.

In addition, she has told me it is time to quit my second job (this is a good thing) and spend more time at home with her and doing things like this. For the single guys out there I wish I could say that she had 20 single sisters, just like her. Sadly this isn't the case though.

you might have a better shot on a 1973 frame and then you run antique insurance... ..... And finding a decent rear-end gear wouldn't be such an issue... ... ...

Yeah theres a guy from Missouri, I saw at Scheids event last year, has a 1st gen body on a 2nd gen truck, its a 92 excab longbed, on 2nd gen excab longbed frame, looked as though the 2nd gen xcab lngbd frame is longer than 1st gen same setup. He had stacks running up between the cab and bed. Don't know if he is a TDR member? George?
