The new truck love affair continues

My 04. 5 just turned 13,000 miles on the last trip. I almost get giddy everytime I start it and go. WHAT A CRUZER!! The 13,000 miles are 100% towing at 20 to 21,000# Gross wt. The difference between my 01 and this truck is profound to say the least. The way it handles the load is very impressive ( I have a Alpinlite camper and cargo trailer behind) with less sway and bobing than the 01. Steering is better although the 01 never seemed to have the problems of some 2gens. I am a very happy owner.

I know exactly how you feel! I have a very similar set-up; DRW 6spd with camper and cargo trailer. Works great! A couple of questions;



- what is the weight of your camper?

- What is the size/ weight of your cargo trailer (must be a little more than mine since I run at around 18,000 GCW)

- what cargo do you carry?

- was your '01 a DRW?

-The camper weighs in the the 3500# range. The truck and camper weigh in at 14,00# with the trailer attatched.

-Cargo trailer is a 8' wide X 16' long Hillsboro alluminum. Weighs about 9000# +- depending on where we are going.

-My wife an I are blacksmiths so we carry our Iron

-The 01 is a DRW also. I also had a 02 DRW

My camper weighs 3217 lbs fully loaded and I'm at 12,000 - 12,500 with the trailer hooked up. My trailer is 16' x 8" as well, but I'm only at around 6,000 lbs all loaded up. Iron, huh! That explains the extra weight!

JUst got back from a trip to Albquerque New Mexico, Silverton Colorado and Carson city Nevada. Put on about 4000 miles. Only issue is the EGT's run high in the dry South West. What a great tow rig. Gonna be adding a chip as soon as there is a reliable one that does timeing. That should cure the high EGTs
