I posted a while back about a noise when towing. I tightened the boost hoses and I thought that it fixed it, but I was wrong. I can duplicate it fairly easy. I just turn off O/D (so my speed doesn't get too fast), turn on my A/C, and get the rpms around 2000 and gun it to around 2500 rpm. I can almost control the noise with the throttle at that point. The noise is a constant pitch, however. I don't want to take it to the dealer but I may have to. Please, help!

Well, I think it's the fan. Something's not right with the clutch and it's causing the fan to engage partially.

Try spinning the fan by hand (with the engine OFF!). It should move fairly easily, but not make more than about 1 full rotation when spun (mine doesn't). Specification from DC says no more than 5 rotations when spun by hand, but that seems excessive to me.

I bet lunch it's the flimsy boost hose off of the compressor housing. It's like one of those cloth lined, flimsy deals. I had the same "wheeeeze" that would gradually go away as the boost fell off with every gear, or as the boost would fall off cresting a rolling grade with a load.

It's not enough to show a serious boost leak by the gage, but just enough to give that leaky baloon sound that we all did as kids.

I was on the road and pulled into the first "C" I saw along the interstate, and bought a piece of boost hose ... ... ... ... man, it was a pain to get sqeezed in there, but no more wheeze!

I've tightened the boost hoses (except the two clamps entering the intercooler - couln't get to them). I'll do it again and look for fraying. It sounds like the leak is coming from the driver's side, but sounds can be deceiving - maybe it is coming from the turbo outlet.

I am having a similar issue with my 2000 dodge 2500. the sound increases around 2000 rpm under load. I was wondering if it was the fan or one of the hoses?
