I have here recently been hearing alot of trash talk by 3 guys with powerstrokes. you know the usual of "no cummins will ever stand up to a powerstroke" and putting down of the ole billy goat i drive. they have raced a couple of my buddys with cummins and beat them. now do you think if i were to set it up and run em would there be a chance of me wining? my buddys truck barely got beat and it has the exact same mods as mine with the addition of 80hp injectors and a 6 speed manual, but mine has a banks high ram intake and a goerend auto. i was just thinking with the quiker sifts of the auto might out weigh the injectors. just trying to get a feel if i might have a chance. just tired of hearing all the trash talking. i would love to stomp them and make them shut there mouth.

P. S. my truck has an edge juice with attitude and my buddys do as well

You will need more power to beat them. Somewhere, either posted here or in the TDR magazine it was stated that a manual trans truck requires about 100 horsepower more than an automatic trans truck to keep up with the auto. Your truck should beat your buddies truck (80 hp difference) but not the Ford.

There is skill in racing a Diesel manual, especially a 6 speed. They just are not designed for fast shifting.

Depends on how the Fords are built/modded. You may get them if your buddy almost won.

Put a 20K lb 5th wheel behind your trucks and race up that long 5 or 6% grade going south on 81 just before getting to Blacksburg:cool: He'll run out of steam ..... and fuel, long before your truck will even break a sweat!! I pull a 33' flatbed trailer with 10 four wheelers loaded on the deck heading down to WVA to go 4 wheeling and the rest of my friends run the 6. 0's. They pull 14 or 16' foot trailers with 2 or 3 bikes onboard and we all fill up in Md. at home and before we get to Princeton they need to refuel. I still have a 1/4 tank of fuel left and I tow the much longer and heavier trailer..... AND have the smallest fuel tank. My truck is modded for towing heavy but I feel it is pretty fast..... the 6. 0's can all outrun me:confused: But when a heavy load is placed out back, my truck easily pulls with no problems. They have needed to stop and clean their EGR's halfway down before.

Seriously?!?!? The 6 speed is not geared for fast starts. It's a towing transmission. Unless you're gonna make it a slam-box and destroy it in the first pass, don't even bother. Rolling runs are different, but from a standstill?!? I'd agree with AClayton, try to get them to put a few thousand pounds in the back and run up a hill. And your auto might get the job done..... I had a '90 d250 3spd auto that no Powerstroke around could touch to 98MPH. Even some faster street cars were challenged to beat it. It was light, fast, and strong. And the newer trucks are supposed to be even faster. Weight is a big consideration, too. If they barely beat your buddy, I'd bet your auto would take them. Be careful either way, I'd hate to have to work a wreck.

yeah the guy that wants to race has a 6. 0 with a tuner and a 6 speed. but aslo forgot to mention that the other cummins he beat had 355 gears where i have 410s. so i might have better 0-60. just tryin to see if i will get my ***** burnt. but man i would loveto him in his pace!

Like AClayton said, put the same load behind your truck & the powerjoke then see who will beat who. I see it all the time a powerjoke will pass me when running my poky 62mph on the flat then we get to a 5 or 6% grade & I will pass them still running my old poky 62mph. Gets them every time.

You said he has a 6 speed and 6. 0L I'd put my money on your auto and 4:10's. I think you would jump him off the line and beat him so bad through his first 3 shifts that he could not catch you in a 1/4 mile. But any further he might get there. V-8's are hard to beat in a drag race with an inline 6. But like said put a load on them and they just don't hold the TORQUE load like an inline 6.

well i ran my buddy today that got beat by a few feet and well... i guess snappy was right. my buddys cummins has 80hp injectors that mine doesnt and we went from a dead stop and within the first 500 yards i had 3 truck links on him. so i feel pretty confident about running the powerjoke now. i talked to the dude on the phone and wants to drag race and then take a run up the mountain on I-81 with a load... but heres the funny thing he says the 6. 0 and the 24 valve vp is a fair run. i ask to use my dads 04. 5 commonrail and he said it wasnt fair because of the injection systems. but what is fair is running an 05 ford vs. a 98. 5 dodge. how is that. its not my fault cummins got the hint and went to common rail injection 5 years earlier than powerstroke. so we set up a race between me and him for sat. night. powerstoke vs. cummins and this should end the trash talkin and prove who has the badest diesel in the county! COME ON VP DONT LET ME DOWN!!!

Just hook a tow bar between the two of you and hold the brakes til' he spins and drag him on a sight seeing tour of where he's already been :-laf If he's got low gears and big tires and gets it hoppin', just smile when he doesn't give up and snaps his front driveshaft!!!

Or... you could just direct him to a ton of youtube videos and let him decide if he wants to be added to the list of casualties :D

OK so you posted at 2:33 AM Saturday and said you were set up for Sat night . . . would that be last night or next Sat night.

Just dying to hear how it went.

well it was supose to be last night but he said he was busy. i just think hes startin to get scarred. he knows that i beat the truck he could only get a few feet on and hes not ready to face up to the fact that his trash talkin wrote a check his truck cant cash. i mean everybody knows him as having the fastest diesel in the county and i was fine with that til he started puttin down the cummins. now its left up to cummins to prove him wrong and i think mine is the best suited to the task. so we will set it up again and hope he doesnt chicken out. by the way has anybody else had this problem and how did it turn out?

You know he spent the night doing last minute modifications. I would throw in some injectors if you don't want to hear his trash talk. Don't tell him!!! I would take out your spare and remove any tools or jacks. I would also make sure you only had enough fuel to do the job and reach the next fillin station. Be safe. Good luck. We are all counting on you.

in a pull from 60 i destroyed a 6. 0 while i had 1500# of slate on the bed, dude pulled even with me and looked over at my gauge pod and grinned, gave him about a 3 count and left him, i backed off and he got even again, so i left him again :-laf i ran down a straight piped 3rd gen 6 speed that i wasn't aware wanted to race till he blazed away, that didn't stand well

well those are my best kills for possible amusement till we get the results

Ok its all over. from a stand still i beat him 3 out of 3 times. and at 25 rolling we tied once and he beat me once but that was because there was a hesitation in the trans when i stomped it. it took a second to down gear but once it did he was already gone. and my buddy with 6 speed and 80hp injectors ran him at 25 and whooped him pretty good. i posted one run on you tube it was taken off a cell phone so the quality is not the best but its named "cummins vs. powerstroke TDR" check it out im the truck with lights across the bottom of the bumper. the powerstroke has cab lights.
