The UTE Bullbar has finally landed!!

Install date is scheduled for Tuesday 25 Nov. More pictures to follow of the complete installation and will be posted in the forum and filed under my gallery

This thing looks even better close up without alll the protective packaging material that it came with. (Full marks to the factory here!). The build quality and finish is definitely superior to anything else I've seen out there and survives the closest of visual inspections. :D (Let's hope that there are no prospective mobile hood ornaments out there who're hankering for a close-up and personal view!)

BTW, It took a forklift to load it into the back of the truck at the docks and four guys to manhandle it out. The shipping weight on the scales was getting on for 100+ Kilos (220 lbs+) .

Now I just have to figure out the best winch to fit inside the winch box, that has measured dimensions of (l) 670mm x (w)160mm x (h)140mm. I believe the best candidate will be the WARN XD9000 with the relocatable control pack, or the Milemarker 12k given these dimensions.

Edit update: sorry about the broken links to these pictures. I've got my ISP checking it out and should be sorted by end of day 13 Nov.

Well good for you, I think the antisipation is almost as good as the product itself. Hope you enjoy the new bumper.

John - I want to see those pics, but the links appear to be broken. Let us know about the installation details too.

Winch selection sorted.

Tough decision but finally I have selected the Milemarker 12k, hydraulic winch :D from my local serious 4x4 off-road winch off-road company based near Salisbury Plains in England.

where the military test out their main battle tanks. This is also the same winch configuration that the US military fit to their Hummers, so it's got the right pedigree.

BTW, this weblink above is well worth a click and takes an honest and pragmatic view of winch selection and costs, both up front and ongoing. If you're undecided before, you won't be after you've visited their website!

Hope you like that bad boy and looking forward to some pic's

There must be a whole lot of packaging on that thing, since it took only 2 of us to unload mine into my truck and then out and on to the front end it was only about a 150lbs.

The quality is top notch and the final look is awsomeOo.

New sigfile

Well, my UTE came fixed and strapped to a big pallet, with humungous amounts of protective packaging and HD polythene with shrink wrapping and arrived in a container as part of a consolidated shipment from Australia via Singapore, as opposed to you guys in North America just picking it up from your local retail outlet. The actual winchbox is a sturdy and solid item, that was quite heavy too.

Have to think creatively about a new sigfile now :(

Heading back to Europe...

It's been a real busy 10 days... last weekend saw me in Toronto and then over to San Fransisco, with a cameo appearance at the monthly Ramrunners meet at Cocoas. Great to finally put some names to new faces and meet up with the regulars once more. Thanks especially to David Dressler for his hospitality. Whilst here in Seattle, I even managed to grab a few beers with the UteMan himself, Randy Cryer, himself just back from Australia. He's now working on a matching style UTE rear bumper, which is already on my future shopping list for 2004. If any UTE owners are interested, then they should drop him an email. Special mention to ToolmanTimTaylor for all his efforts on sourcing the amber and red LEDs - it's a real pity that the supplier let you down so we'll have to invoke Plan B when I'm back in the UK. As promised, pictures of the Ute bullbar install will appear in this forum in about a week's time.

Cheers guys!! I had a great time in the USA. I'm heading back to Europe via Chicago later today.

Well gosh, John, it was a pleasure having you out for the brief stay. Now you've got me searching for more of that tasty Romanian 'grape', however. ;)

Lookin' forward to those pictures. It's unfortunate that you might have to go through another 1-year shipping wait to get that matching rear bumper though.

Very more-ishGary!

let me in on it and maybe I can help source it for US :)

You assume correctly Gary!! David still has some (empty :( ) bottles with labels - it was a 2001 single grape cabernet red, Romanian Murfatler

I know the buyers of the largest wine merchant in the USA... but they do not stock all labels [go figure]. . sometimes I can pull off a miracle

David. . if ya can water soak a label and scan it to me via an E-mail... that will help OUR quest :D

Great minds think alike!

Gary-

I had already done the deed before reading your reply. Here's a lower TDR resolution pic. Let me know if you want me to send a higher resolution shot directly to you.

Watch out for the US Postal Service sommeliers!!

Not sure if there is a USA import procedure for this wine yet set up, but if I can advise/assist with the UK importer details guys , please do not hesitate to ask .....

I have already found out the hard way that sending wine through the international airmail service to the USA does not work as the US Postal Service has apparently decreed that alcoholic beverages with an alcohol by volume level greater that 5% are not allowed and will be confiscated if discovered. Eric Payne (me40su) in Sealy Texas discovered this small print clause (only) after the event so to speak... :( and the local Postal service investigators had a very merry afternoon at our expense
