I ran across this YT video on another forum. I know that there are many of us on the TDR that will remember, "Back in the day," and for those of you that are much younger this video will give you a little taste of what growing up was like for us older folks.

Not sure if those were the "Good Ol' days, but they sure were a lot of fun!

I'm only 45 but I remember these days. Always outside until dark or until I was told to come in. Rode my horses and bikes for miles on narrow 2 lane roads. Carried my 22 rifle everywhere and no one said a dadgum thing....Hell, in high school, I'd have my shotguns hanging in the rear window and parked on campus; soon as school was out, I was shooting ducks. Gawd we've turned into such a nanny world.

So your high school in the 1990s, had an exemption no other school had, from the Federal Gun Free School Zone law that passed in 1990?

I played in a lot of dirt in the 40's and 50's as a kid, building a strong body that built up a lot of immunity to many different things. I also got a battery of vaccines for all sorts of things, include an experimental rabies vaccine before shipping out to SE Asia in 1966. And guess what I am still around to talk about it.

In California, kids have to wear a helmet if under 18 to ride a bicycle. Everyone get's their feeling hurt, everyone get's a trophy for losing, and were re-writing history. I hate this state.
No GS, not everyone. No doubt that Ca is an ultra liberal state and seems to be getting more so. If it weren't for our grown children living here we would be on the lake in Texas.
Isn't the great thing about the United States and we can settle wherever we choose.

That video didnt show us jumping out of that swing at the top of the arch to see how far we could launch ourselves, riding in the bucket of the tractor or riding in the back of the pickup. Wish I had the endurance now that I had then riding my bike everywhere ALL day.
Amen Brother...

Or swinging out over ravine on a grape vine! Or bouncing on tree limb over a ravine! Been there done that! Sometimes it was all good, others not so good! We all bounced back and are still going today. Youth sure had it's advantages!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Wiredawg , You reminded me of the 1 pump rule we'd have playing war with our BB guns! So right on not putting an eye out!

We dented a lot of road signs near the firecracker stand with a home made cannon with solute firecrackers and marbles in the mid 50's!

Remember when you could buy waterproof fuse from the back of Popular Mechanics? We used to take my Moms old manual coffee grinder and grind up salt peter from the garden shop with sugar, charcoal, sulfur and then fill up rockets with that stuff. Miracle we are still alive. Also used to make carbide cannon with coffee can, those would blow the lid off pretty good. Fun times. I can't tell my Grandson about some of this stuff, but he will figure it out.

Heck just 35 years ago when we moved to this town, I don't think there was a pickup in town without a rifle rack and at least one gun in it. And every guy that I met that drove one had a handgun in the cab. What CCW?
