I have an EGT placed down towards the turbo kind of where cyl 5 comes in. I just got an ATS exhaust manifold and it is on the top around #2 (I think, I am not looking at it right now). How different will my EGT's be in this spot?

Thanx.

Should be a little cooler up around #2. Rear cylinders apparently run a little hotter. How much? I don't know.

I currently have my probe in the elbow. I will be installing a pacbrake soon and am considering tapping the exhaust manifold. What is the best location on the manifold? I was thinking about putting it where it all comes together right above the turbo.

I have a thermocouple for the TST readout installed in the cylinder 2 area, and one for the DiPricol gauge where 5 and 6 come together.

Both seem to be very close to each other 95% of the time... within 20° or so. However, on a short WOT run, the thermocouple installed in the 5-6 passage can run 50 - 75° hotter. I've also noticed on cooldown, that the 5-6 temperature probe cools off a little quicker.

I'm not sure if this is "real" or if this simply indicates that the DiPricol gauge has a little faster response time than the TST readout. Hope this helps... --Eric

I have read heard what ENafziger said, that it is hotter near the back above the turbo. I did mine exactly where it says to on the Dieselmanor.com website.

Thanx guys.

Sorry Oneshotkyle, I edited it the other day and must have deleted by accident. Anyway, I have it in my elbow now and will be installing a pacbrake as soon as UPS drops it off. I was debating on wether or not to install it pre turbo while I was in there putting the Ebrake in. If I do change it to pre turbo, I'd like to know the best location on the manifold.

FWIW I have seen a 3rd gen with a grenaded #5 cylinder in it at a dealership I go to. It looked like the exhaust valves went first, but tough to say. The probe was in the front half of the manifold. I know they run hotter on the back three, so that is where I would want my probe. Just my 2 cents.
