My water pump started making noise on the way back from getting my NV4500 installed by Quad 4X4. I now love my "new" truck! Back home, I went to change the thermostat along with the new water pump and ran into this problem:

I bought the "new" part number talked about, 3934373, but found the flange on it is too big diameter to fit into the tstat housing like the old one. So, I took it back and told the parts man to just look in the book and give me whatever it says. He showed the correct "updated" number to be 3928499, and necessary to go along with that, a two-piece "gasket" and "seal". Of course, as my luck would have it, this new tstat is again too big, so are the seals, I see no way that this would work-- the gasket won't even fit thru the lift bracket like the old one does.

In searching past posts, there are several tstat numbers mentioned... but no mention of any being too large to fit the housing like I've found, and no mention of two-piece seals.

Help! Which number would be the same size as the old one and will work on my '93? To add to my problems, I have to drive 120 miles to the cummins dealer, and have misplaced my old one since I've been doing this parts chasing for two weeks!

Thanks in advance!

That's when I bought one for my 92. I just got out the invoice from Cummins and it lists the part number as 3802273. The description is Thermostat Kit for B-Series. I'm sure you'll run into at least one or two different part numbers as I did when looking for the correct number. Hope this helps... .

Thanks, Dustin. 3802273 is the correct #. I got it from the local Peterbuilt dealer (also sells Cummins parts) by just asking for a tstat for a B series. I guess I gave the Cummins store too much info
