Thermostat gasket ?

Draining my 2006 and checking the thermostat. Removed bolts from thermostat cover and found no gasket, only an o-ring on the top cover. I am the second owner, should there be a gasket or RTV?

Thanks for the input. I also called Geno's and confirmed same.

Just clean the area well and NO sealer on the ring.
