I am going through the cooling system and am looking for the preferred Cummins 180* thermostat. In my hour and a half of searching I have three different part numbers.

3802968

3928499

3954194

Can someone decipher these for me?

I know this is a basic question but from the pages of threads I was reading I am still wondering which one is right.

I run the first one and it stays put, doesn't fluctuate. I would call Cummins and get the most recent/updated t-stat available for your truck. I would bet with all the CPL's and engine configurations, there are a ton of t-stat part numbers.

i have whatever the dodge dealer gives you when you ask for a 96 cummins thermostat as of a few months ago, it came in a cummins box and had the temp gauge swinging back and forth like a windshield wiper, i drilled a couple small holes in the disc to circulate some coolent past the element to help it react more slowly, that all but stopped the swinging temp gauge
