As a secondary option, Napa sells replacement t-stats for ~$6. Part number 370-190. Only down side is that it doesn't get rid of the temp fluctuation when unloaded.

My big reason for een asking is I am about to pull the alternator to put brushes and bearings in it so i figured why not change it but..... If the latest and greatest Cummins unit is slower to warm up and colder to boot then I do not want it. I don't care about the fluctuation but figured if it was better i would change it. I have enough issues in the winter trying to keep the beast warm. Espeacially this past winter when we had days that we were lucky to break 25* and add running up the Hwy at 65 or 70 mph it was a chalenge keeping it warm. Thanks Turbine Dude. P. S. the funnuy thing is I have a diesel shop local that I have never had dealings with that swears if you have a 5. 9 in a truck and the temp fluctuates up and down then you have a blown head gasket! How many suckers have fell for that trick????

If you want a t stat for the cold weather go and get a Stant thermostat number 532090. It is a wide flange that is a 195 degree. Will run alot warmer and doesn's cycle much. Only thing is, is when it starts to get warm out you need to change it back because that sucker will definately get warm. I change to that one every fall and back to stock every spring. Works great.
