Have '99 3500 and have changed coolant in radiator every two years. This change thought I would change the thermostat which has been in for 71/2 years. When I first got the truck it ran hot pulling the fifth wheel trailer. Upon return home the dealer put a new thermostat in rated at 180 degrees. (just found out when I took old one out to change)It still looks like new but after so long of a time felt like it needed changing before we head for the west coast. Am now told that I cannot buy a 180 degree thermostat and Cummins will not sell me one as the truck is rated for a 190 degree thermostat. All the parts places show the same thermostat so out of luck there. Have no idea what came in the system when new. Have had no problems with the truck other than the boost pump which was replaced at 167000 miles along with a starter. Will raising the temp 10 degrees be a problem in the future. I know some of you have a lot more knowledge of the Cummins than I and could help me out.
