How many miles before the OEM lift pump dies?

I think I narrowed it down

I had a '99 auto that would run just under 190 empty & exactly 190 when loaded. My 2000 runs 190-195 empty and runs 195+ when loaded. It gets warm enough that the fan clutch kicks in and out. I read a post about a TSB that comments on this. I have also read a post about a thermostat you can get from cummins to help. I am at 39k miles, so is the thermostat out of warrantee or does it fall under the engine 100k warrantee?
Can anyone get me part numbers for a thermostat that will correct this?

Thanks
Bob

Thermostat part nunmber: Cummins part number 393-5811 for 24v engines.

I believe the 12/12,000 warrantee covers the thermostat. I haven't replaced mine yet, as it seems fine.

Hope this helps.

I just installed a cummins thermostat after a coolant change. The Part number I got was 3954194. This was for a 1999. Don't know if the part numbers are different for a 2000 or not?? As soon as I put in the new thermostat my temperature guage would cycle back and forth. Put my old on back in, as solid as a rock. Must have got a bad thermostat?

On 2/9/2001 I was sold thermostat Cummins P/N 3954194 as a replacement for my 2000 Ram.

howdy big barney, check this out,I had first generation now second generation cummins both have had crazy temp gauge, this time i did'nt wait,i changed t/stat with mopar 180 put them side by side looked at them and they were identical, when i put new in i lined up jiggle pins with port on head and water pump. I don't know if it matters but gauge does not go over 180 and does not have moud swings either so no clutch fan going crazy. by the way you gotta change coolant every year !!!!

best of luck jdm joe
