I still have the original 190* thermostat. It runs a needle width below 190* when running empty and a needle width above 190* when towing our 5ver.

Thermostat?

I can not speak for any other year model but I have a 99 3500 and had thermostat problems early on. About the second trip I took (New Mexico) it got a little hot going up the pass at Eagles Nest. I finally got a thermostat at the dealer in Taos and changed it myself. The thermostat I removed was 180*, the one I put in was 180* and the two spares I have under the back seat in my truck are 180*, they are also genuine Cummins parts. Things may be different now but at the time I bought the thermostats, only 180* was available. I now have 73000 miles on the truck and most of it is towing a 31' fifth wheel. bg
