Seems that every time I wash my truck and the hose brushes up against the paint I get a scratch right through the darn paint. Sure the hose is wet and may have picked up some grit but i'm hardly touching the thing. My 96 does not have this problem. Also when washing it with a sponge I use on my other cars I notice lots of small scratches (swirls) all over until I buff the whole truck out. Granted it is a black truck but so are the other cars I have. Anyone heard anything, love the truck but this has been a bit disappointing.

I feel your pain, my black 05 has tons of white scratches and chips. i don't even drive on gravel roads.

On a side note, my chiropracter and his secretary got caught in a hailstorm last week leaving for the day. the hail was the size of dimes and he thought for sure his toyota double cab was going to have a lot of damage. well it didn't, but the secretaries 06 ram quad cab was dimpled with hail damage.

Same here on my '04. 5. I talked to a friend who owns a paint and body shop about it, he said that new EPA regs have forced paint manufacturers to reduce or eliminate lead in their paint. Lead gives the paint some flexibility as I understand it.

The day I bought my truck and drove it home, I found a nice scratch in the paint. Dealer said that's the way it is with road damage.

It's not just Lead the EPA is after, its the solvents as well. So this is true, unless your truck was built in Mexico where the EPA don't have any pull!

But the paint on my Mexico 06 is pretty thin also.

I made one trip down a dirt road and went slow,I have about 20 or so chips in the paint with just 3000 miles on the truck :{

yeah, the clear coat is what your seeing the swirls in.

Just stand back 10 feet with no direct sunlight. looks good that way :) up close, makes me sick.

Apparently, this is normal for dodge and a good detail shop can heat up the clear and make it look good again.

thin

my 06 paint is very very thin . i washed it with a wash brush, and nicked it with the back of the plastic part. what gives with dc? kp :{

Paint is more or less the same from most all manufactures. This issue has been posted on many times over the last several years.
