Guys,

I have a little over 9400 miles now on my white Gote' and I have noticed a have a small oil leak possible at the pinion seal on the rear axle. It has not dripped, but I can see the housing area around the driveshaft yoke is wet on the axle housing. So I am watching it for more than what it has done so far. May have to replace that seal. I need to make sure that the axle vent is vented. I had a Ford truck once that had the vent assembly all nice and in place but the fitting that was threaded into the axle that the hose fitted on was never drilled out so the axle would get all hot and pressure up and the pinion shaft seal was the first place that started to leak...

Now, do any of you guys know if there is anyway to get the switches for the Tow/haul and the jake brake so that they have a memory to them, or so once you turn either or both of these switches on, that they would stay on until you switched them off??? I just want these to stay on if I have them on, even after I cut the truck off and then restart her.

Make sense?

I know there has been programmers that once you install them, they would do stuff like this on certain vehicles. I guess I could run a hot wire to these two switches that is hot all the time, but that is not such a good idea, I would rather have something like a memory circuit of some sort to these, unless there is a way already to switch these around much like I did with the high idle circuit. Makes no sense to me why the high idle circuit was not on from the get go on these anyway LOL... Any rate, anyone know if these switches can be revamped like this or not???

I also started on building a set of the ultra high performance running boards that I make from time to time for work trucks and guys who use these for working with. I have made many sets over the years of these and they are some what a PITA to do like I make these and all, but they are really great running boards that bolt straight up to the frame... I will have art work on this process, with the work in progress. I also have some art of the Gote' I need to put in the shutterfly account and get some of these posted on here also.

The white Gote' has really started to turn loose of the hp here lately too, guys!!! I mean this Gote' was not a slug to begin with, but now with almost 10K on her now, she is really waking up now... This past week I got my first fuel in her that was not the ULSD. Lucky for me I just happen to like to check stuff like this as I am filling up at new places, which this was. So I got a little weirded out when I noticed the fuel was plain and clear, didn't have the green dye in it. So I only put in 10 gallons, which was just enough to get me where I have been getting fuel that I know is good stuff.

Sure enough the fuel I took on from this place went about 50 miles toward home town and the truck set a check engine light and went into regen. cycle... Just made me sick too when I saw this happen, pulled over and dumped 10 more ozs. of PowerService in the fuel and hit the rode with the truck in 5th for a high gear, so as to keep the R's up a little more to help cook the DPF out. I logged all the data on this in the log book and I have contacted the EPA on this. Really torqued me off when this happened... I will keep all here interested, posted as to what the EPA finds out and does. They did understand my concern about this and my new truck that has all this filter on the exhaust system. They was not at all for the idea of removing the filters on the exhaust system, so as to be able to use the fuel we buy LOL... I did tell them I think that the Gov't. was a little ahead of things on this technology until they have the ULSD at the pumps and no way any other grade of fuel was going to be able to sneak in under the radar...

As I talked to the EPA, I was still somewhat torqued up over what had happened, so I had plenty to say about all this crap they have put on our trucks and now they can see just what is going to happen to our trucks... I also told them what I was probably going to do with my truck so as to be able to burn any type of fuel since that is what we still have at the pumps even when they say its ULSD LOL...

Jeb H,

The pump wasn't identified with a sticker stating which fuel it was ? If it is mislabled and you can prove its the wrong fuel, then get the EPA involved. If the pump is properly labled and you still pumped the wrong fuel, it is on your shoulders. As a business owner, I'd hate to have the EPA sicked on me because someone made a mistake, but blamed me for it. Just my . 02 .

Jim

Jim,

I could not agree more dude about sicking the EPA nazi's on anyone and I did go back and make a second look just in case I missed something. But it was in fact labeled as the ULSD, and it was most certainly not that kind of fuel:(

TIM,

Gote is a very easy way for me to refer to my Dodge Ram. A ram is a animal that is what the emblem is shaped to look like on these trucks also. Its a Ram's head with thye horns and face. Hence the term Gote'... It could be misread as not very flattering, but I use it in the sence as very flattering, at least I mean for it to be, as this truck is one tough ol'e gote!!! If you follow me???

Ok, got it. It was the spelling that was confusing me. I've always seen "gote" spelled g-o-a-t..... and every time I think of "goat", I think of the Pontiac GTOs, also affectionately called goats.

I certainly agree with the idea of latching the tow/haul & ebrkae switchs so they stay on until you shut them off. I have a friend that would like for the seat heaters ( on low) as well, as he uses a remote start in the winter.

Perhaps this is something the guys behind the Smarty could set up !

As a once-younger proud owner of a brand new 1965 GTO, any spelling of "goat" will always mean that revered musclecar to me.

A ram is a sheep,... not a goat.

Ahh, the good ol' days :)

That GTO was a 400 hp (factory tuned) 389, 3-carb( "Tri-power") metallic-clutched 4-0n-the-floor beast. 15 mpg(!) if driven sanely on only the center carb. Top speed on one carb about 105 (can't remember the rear ratio).

Top speed on all three about 115,... but oh my, you got up there so much faster!

My best service-station gas-war memory, from maybe 10 years before that,...

17. 9 per gallon :)

Price for the car?

$2770.

But that was then

Wolfy,

Dude, a new GTO and for 2770. Won't touch them nowdays for sure:) Now I guess if we are to get all technical your right about the ram and a sheep. I had all these types of animals as a kid on our ranch property and had to take care of all of them at one time or other. So they have all been known to me as way worse things from time to time LOL... They all taste just like chicken too LOL

Love to eat chicken:)

Heck I even had a horse or two I called a gote' more than once, didn't eat them though, but I wanted to shoot one or more of them from time to time. They are just a bigger version of the rodent family, just come in handy when needing to run cattle out of the creek bottom land where its so brushy.

Now you mentioned gas war, today gas in our area and diesel have become the same price... Don't remember when they were like this LOL... I remember a few years ago that diesel was almost given away, now its the prem O fuel LOL...

I doubt if your buying fuel in either a card lock or station that your still seeing LSD... ... . no matter what the pump is marked... . its my guess that to keep from making the mistake in the pipeline, tank farm, or tank truck all fuel that is shipped is USLD..... even our red fuel here in WA from all the people we get fuel from is USLD... .....

I doubt much if any LSD is around still too and felt the same way as jelag, however the original poster did say a CEL lit up and the truck went into regen cycle. . wtf is that, excuse me for having an 'old' technology truck!?

Guys,

On the jake brake staying if you have been using it and you cut the truck off, I noticed that the switches right above it in the climate control section do however have somewhat a memory to them. The recycle air and cold air switches will stay on after a key cycle. Hummmm, sure has me wondering now:)

There may be a IC board on the backside of the climate controls where as they may be simple switches on the jake brake, just not sure yet whats up with this all and if it would be something I can rewire or add a memory circuit to.

The tow/haul button being on the end of the shifter will be a matter in a whole different area of coarse. It would just be way cool if these would stay on after a key cycle of killing the truck and then crank her back up.

Jim,

You and Lightman think as I did, I don't however think about this the same after talking with the EPA on all this. I can't for the life of me figure why they would still be marketing at the pumps LSD, but I was told they are and should have these labeled as such...

That alone told me that I will not be the only one to have this happen too. It would have really made me angry if the pump I filled with had been marked LSD. I can't imagine the trouble a station has that does sale both fuels. I told the EPA that in allowing this, we have no possiblility of this sort of trouble I just had from happening over and over.

I told the EPA, that I thought since 07' that all diesel would be ULSD with the exception of off-road use fuel. I told them by allowing the two fuels to be sold at the pumps they have in fact set us up for failure JIMO...

Since all this cluster of trouble I got in, I fill up at a place that I normally don't, I check the fuel for the green dye color, no green color; I don't fill there. I know that there could very easy be ULSD that is not green, I just would like to hope that there would less fuel that is green in color that isn't ULSD:)

Until I figure out how to remove all this EPA crap off my exhaust system and have the 6. 7 run right, I want to be as careful to get the ULSD as possible so I don't have to replace the PDF any sooner than I have to at the expense of it.

The whole problem I got in with the LSD at a station that has all the pumps labeled ULSD has been very eye opening for me and just wanted to pass this info along...

Lightman,

I forgot to mention WTF regen is and does LOL... Don't be sorry you have the older technology truck either. I am quite certain at this point in the new technology the older is much better with all this crap they have on the exhaust system dude.

The regen is what has to be done from time to time with this new DPF, PDF or however you want to call this new filter we have on the exhaust sytems of our diesels.

Once the DPF gets to the point its restricting exhaust flow and the sensors detect this, the ECM puts the truck into the regeneration cycle or what alot of us call regen... This regen cycle is where the ECM puts extra raw fuel in the system to super heat the exhaust system to burn the filtered paticulate from the DPF.

There is a lot more to all this but I think it will give you a good idea of to WTF this is dude LOL... Just be glad yours is old technology for now too:)

Eh , Jeb H those running boards will make this big White RAM look more like a Billy Gote, than a Nanny Gote, or a Kid Gote :) Hope your are not planning on putting Goats Horns on them? But your crafsman ship on creating those is nothing but awsome , wish I had half your talent! I think they are going to look very good no matter what kind of goating they get! :) Thumbs Up Bro Gary one more week my Baby should be here? Oo. Oo. Oo.
