Piers twins vs. ???

Are Horton Fan Clutches Still Available?

Not that anyone is nearly as inept as I am. But if you are doing a twins install on a 24 valve motor and for some reason you decide that the little plug that covers the second oil drain hole just has to go for a swim in the oil pan. I discovered that if you remove the pan bolts, lower it to the cross member, push it forward and then turn it so the front of the pan is to the pass side and the rear is to the drivers side, you can reach inside with your right arm and get it. I am not a small person and I don't have skinny arms. I tried every lure in my tackle box and I could not get it to bite. So I figured it was time to try live bait.

How does that other plug come out anyway? I mean, how would you remove it without dropping it in the pan?

Was told about the drilling. Didn't like the drill point chip falling in the pan. Big chips or little neither sounded good. Jim, sorry if this has been brought up before.

heck, be glad you've got a second drain... I get to add one to my oil pan! :(

I'm just gonna give 'er hell w/ a full fill of oil and yank the plug and hope that everything comes out the drain! :p

I heard that the 12 valve motors don't have one. I guess you take a hole saw to the pan. I was looking at your pictures. Looks like your twins are coming along. I had to make a 5/8'" thick spacer so the top turbo would fit on the ATS manifold. I need to make 4 studs and get another gasket for the spacer and mine might be ready to put together.

they're comin' along... I ordered the stuff for my cold side piping... my wastegate flanges should be here this week. maybe I'll get the wastegate stuff AND the cold side done before I go on vacation! :D

Don't be, it just been done by more than one... ... lessons learned!

BOTW, 12V's do have a second drain if they have a storm block like mine!

Now Forrest, if you're like me you get parts in and can't wait to install it. Just don't rush anything! ;)

nah, I'm not rushing... I'll be gone for most of the month of August. DEFINATELY not going to install the twins till I get back! LOL!

the plan is to do twins, studs, and o-rings at the same time...

we'll see, it might end up being twins and studs at first ;)

What the heck is a 'storm' block? I've heard this mentioned quite a few times...

I have a '53' block in my '98 12-valve - it has two drains... but I have no idea if it is a 'storm' block or not...

Same as mine!

Jim

I think the "storm" block is the newer verison with two options for oil drain lines and all other ports in block are straight thread with o-ring instead of pipe thread. Like the ports in the oil galley and coolant passages.

In theory teeing into the stock turbo drain will work fine, but if you ever get to the point were oil backs up into the turbo you can say good by to the seals..... turbo's don't like that, they like a nice free fall away from the turbo or a scavenge pump pulling it away.

Jim

O-rings and straight threads... instead of traditional tapered pipe threads - gotcha. Now that you mentioned that - it's all coming back to me.

Did the storm blocks have a higher nickel content or something?

I know quite a few people that 'tee' into the one drain and never had a problem. I also know other people who tried to 'tee' into the one drain and blew out the seals in their turbo(s)...

Some people get lucky - some don't.
