With the turbo group buy I think I might bite the bullet and get one. I have my eye on the htb2 62/12 or the htb2 62/14. What would be the main difference between the 12 and 14 housings? Advantages/disadvantages?

Thanks for the info. So I guess I should go with the 14 then. I'd much rather have top end. How do they compare to a phat shaft?

I've tried the 62/12 & 62/14 both. I liked the 14 housing better because it cooled faster on top. The super turbos cool better because they have a bigger turbine wheel & move more air, but the 62/14 htb2 is a great turbo. The phat shaft & htb2 are basically the same, but a few minor details. You can't go wrong with your decision between the htb2 or phat shaft... They are both made by good people who are very honest & helpful.

Lesson learned the hard way a few times, if you are going to drop the money for a new turbo don't try and save yourself a little money and get the less expensive turbo (Phat Shaft or HTB2 Series) get either a Super Phat Shaft or the "High Tech Series" turbo. You will be happier if you do. Just my experience anyway.

I run a htb2 62/14 all i can say :D :D

give chris at river city turbo a call if you want a good deal !!!!!

If you tow you want either a 12 cm standard, or the high tech series. I ran a 62/12 all summer on my truck pulling about 12-13K. It was great charger I had supermentals in the truck, ran with the comp box off. Only complaint was 6th gear below 2000 RPM, the truck would run hot onthe egt, right around 1250-1300, as soon as you passed 2000 rpm it would cool back to 1100 or so. Below 2000 RPM there is not enough compressor speed to keep the truck moving the air it needs. The 14 cm housing would be worse, unless you went to a larger turbine wheel to get your shaft speed up. The 62/12 cooled plenty on top dragging the trailer. Now if you do no towing I would go for the 62/14 in a heart beat.

When I went from the 62/12 to the 62/14htb2... . I dropped down 150 degrees on the egt's & was alot cooler on top. Maybe it is the injectors or something, but I liked the 14 housing better for towing. Compare both chargers to the 62/24 LDP that I have now & EGT's are 200 degrees lower yet. My experiences with turbos is that the bigger the housing & turbine wheel = cooler EGT's.

Htb2 62/14 also. Tow on 2/3 on the comp works great. I would agree with zstroken that they are great above 2000, below that the egts get up until the boost comes on. Driving interstate at 75 no issues. Tapped 1200 once this weekend merging from a stop to 60 mph trying to stay ahead of oncoming traffic.

I agree once you get the RPM up the 14 would offer cooler temps. He said he towed heavy though. I can tell you that if I didn't keep the engine above 2000 in 6th gear, the temps would get around 1250. Once I got over 2000 the temps would run around 1000-1100. THis tells me that at the low RPM I was not spinning the charger fast enough, a larger housing would let it spin slower yet. Once I got the RPM up it would cool down, so I had enough CFM to keep it cool. THis is why the LDP does such a great job towing also. THe larger turbine wheel, provides more force to spin the compressor wheel faster hence pushing more air through the engine. If I didn't tow I would choose the 62/14, since I tow it would be either the 62/12 or the super stock 62.

FOr some reason in my wacked out mind I thought he told me he would be towing with this set up. If not then the 62/14 or the super stock 62 would be a great choice.
