Put on some General Grabber tires last fall, put 20,000 miles on them and they are already looking bald in areas. Needless to say I am not happy. Anyway, decided I want the BF Goodrich all terrains Had a set on my old suburban and loved them, mostly cause I never had to think about them. Anyway, I have a 99 1ton and my stock tire size was the 215's went to 235's and really liked the look. I see now as I am looking around that BFG's offer a 245/75/R16/E I am pretty sure that will fit my truck, without having to add spacers and what not, but am not sure. I do tow some fairly heavy loads and will not be without the load E, but would really like the looks of a slightly taller tire.

Long story short, I am just asking for your experiences and also what you guys are paying for your BFG's, I will probably be buying before middle of october. So talk to me and thanks in advance for whatever you can offer.

I have had 2 sets on my truck, 265's. Great service as 90% of miles is towing gross 18k. I replace thaem at 30% tread and give em to my son for his F*** v-10 pig 4x4 They don't hydroplane and great traction in snow or sand. Like you said " never had to think about them "

Cowboy, I have a 96' ext. cab 3/4 ton, and had been very disapointed at the wear on various tires... . Until I went with Michelins, I can't believe the difference! (every tire shop tells me they have brands that wear as well as Michelins... it's BS)... . I bought Michelin LTX AT 245 hsr 16, when I had 108,812 miles, I know have over 156,600 miles... and it's looking like I'll go a few more thou, before I put new tires on. 50,000 miles isn't too bad for a heavy work truck! I have 3 tool boxes and a lumber rack and I load it down alot with tools ,constuction materials, and pull tractors and utility trailors often. I paid 515. 00 out the door including Installation taxes, everything (4 tires), at Costco. I am totally sold on Michelins and will never buy another brand! I may try the 265's next time. I reccomend anyone to give them a try.

Mine lasted about 50k now I am on my second set. I paid $650. 00 for the set. I have the 33" 16. 5x12. 5

I am on my second set of Michelin LTX MS tires. Got 65,000 mi. out of the 1st set. The factory supplied Wranglers only lasted 38,000 MI.

The single best reason I bought them is that in L/R “E” they have a 3rd steel belt giving 3 steel belts in the tread area. I think that this makes them ride a little rougher but I am interested in safety/wear when hauling my 5th wheel TT.

Check out their web site or one of their dealers. Bought mine from Sam’s Club. That way I could have nation wide rotation/re balance/flat fixing etc.

Also what PSI do you run them at?

I had BFG All Terrain T/A's on my last truck, a 1500 Chevy. They were the best snow tire I'd ever had on that truck. I had about 45k on them when I traded the truck off. (It was a case of either get new tires or buy a new truck) They did have some life left in them, but winter was coming. I hear good things on the Michelins, except they're more of a highway tire than an off roader, just what I heard.

True the Michelins are a highway tire, but are also rated "E" which means they can handle heavy loads. Most of the off-road tires aren't rated for hauling trailers,5th wheels, or heavy loads.

I blew out the sidewall of my Cooper heading back to camp this weekend.

Ordered a set of 285 BFG AT's today..... $135 each, including mount and balance. Hope they work out well:cool:

Hummin,

Where did you go and get that price at? I just got a quote from the local Costco, and after tax, for a set of 285/75/R16, they want $730 :--) :--) For 265/75/R16, they want $670. This is in AZ, with 8. 3% sales tax, so I plan on giving the guy back home that I do tire business with a call before I do this, but I kind of want these tires before I drive 900 miles home in December.

A question: Will the 285/75/R16's fit on my truck w/o rubbing? Will they look ok w/o a lift? If not, what size should I look at?

Thanks, Josh.

Josh

Do a search and I beleive the 285's will not rub under normal driving. There have been lots of posts about tire sizes, but every truck is different. I think they will look great, something to fill up those huge wheelwells. I run 265's now so I probably wont notice much difference.

That price was from my local tire dude. My price he doesn't make much on them, but I buy all my tires and wheels there, mostly he makes his money on the people who dont rotate their own tires and his alignments and inspections.

I have 315 BFG AT's and love the way they are wearing with 37,000 miles. That being said I won't buy them again..... pick up and spit way too many rocks. My rockers look like they have been sandblasted. Going to get the BFG MT's next as I am hoping that the larger rocks won't get picked up off the road as easily.

Do the 315's fit ok without a lift kit?

Thanks,

Blake

"Dont have to think about them" is about right. The BFG a/ts have been good to me as well. Always have gotten over 60k miles, and never a problem with the tires.

The only things id say bad is IMO they dont bite quite as well as Id like, on-road or off-road. For example in the rain, my 285's making a right turn, were easy to spin by rolling on the throttle, as compared to this set of Mudders, even on the road, dont spin in the same situations and take work to break them loose. This I believe is because the BFG A/T's are sort of a hard compound, which explains the higher miles before wearing out.

Off-road, they were marginal at best. Night & day difference between those & mudders.

They DO pick up rocks very bad, and DO hold on to em and wait till youre moving pretty good before they decide to let go, & fling 'em against your paint, and DO chip paint very quickly. Mud tires dont do that.

285's fit with no prob on the 4x4, no rubbing at all, and I believe they were E rated at that size and had a load cap of about 3300 lbs ea. Fine for towing on hot days, as they dont tend to run hot, like the mudders do.

The next set of tires is a tough choice, because love the Mud tires, but they might barely make it to 40k maximum, and those BFG A/T's are a better buy if youre looking at value for the buck only.

I'd consider looking at the Bridgestone Dueller Mud tires. They have a nice tread and the reviews are good. The mud tires I have sure are wearing good.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

285 BFG AT's on back order, dont know when he can get them. Going back to my Cooper STT. They were great on my blazer, not sure how they will be on my Ram.

Sorry for the delay been away. I got them here in Medford at Advantage Tire. They were actually $648. 00 :D Other the other places wanted 750. 00-800. 00. I run them at 45psi all the way around. I may try the mud terrain on the next set to see how i like them.

just had a set ......

of bfg at ko's. 285-75-16. these were put on stock 6. 5 inches rims. nice looking tire. i have them at 40#'s. drove in some dust and saw where the front was dirty out to the edge. the rear was about an inch short. i will let some air out of the rears proabably down to 35 and check them again. paid $750 for this set.

time to go and put on the new lift pump.

Duane

i checked the pressure and i was told wrong. had them at 50#'s all the way around. lowered the rears to 40 and left the fronts at 50.
