Anyone have the 19. 5" Rickson rims and tires on their truck? Are they worth the moolah? What kind of(Highway tread) tires should I get?
Definately no more Wranglers for this guy, they wear like a cheap pair of Taiwan made shoes.
I was pretty impressed with Rickson's tire balancing thingamajiggy, and I'm thinking that maybe this setup would be much better for towing because you can get a bigger tire without having to go to with an "offroad pattern" tread.

But boy that's a lot of coin for wheels and tires, after all I've got to spend some money on my boat too.

I'm in the same boat, boatman. I'm also thinking about the wheels but I need them for highway driving and I'm sick of having to buy offroad tires to make them last as long as highway tires. I'm also looking to replace the 285/75's that I have at the same height. I'd also appreciate any coments from TDR members. Gmd

85,000Miles!

Yes 'mam it is a rolling office/bedroom/pickup/stinkpot/the best truck ever made!

1998. 4 4x4 Quad Cab 2500. 285/75/16 White w/gray trim. TST#8 plate. Limo tint, Whistler hidden radar built into overhead dash, Combo toolbox/41gal tank, electric start, Lund Grill Covers, Electronic Idler, scotty's air intake, and more to come.

I put them on my truck. I have about 18,000 mile on them now so it is only an initial run. No wear is seen yet but that does not mean very much. These are supposed to last in the 200K range- maybe not the way I drive. So far I like them. The load rating is way overkill for our trucks. They did help me out though when I did a little inadvertent off roading due to some black ice. I pushed over one of those new england stone walls with the tire. Chipped the rim but no sidewall damage. One mistake I made was to look at the pictures and figure which one is a good snow/all weather tire. Better to ask. Also do not get the maximum tire for the wheel well. That will preclude chains in the front- If you need chains that is. Some benefits- Very long wear, can be "aired up" to ridiculous levels for higher milage, hard to hurt, load rating beyond the trucks ability, Better handling . On the down side is you will have these tires for a LONG time -Choose wisely, They are heavier and that cannot help ride quality, I do not care I own a TRUCK, but the passenger who pays half the bills may #ad
, If you go bigger the speedo nightmare (same as with super swampers etc. ) And initial cost. Overall life cycle costing they are cheaper 200K miles/2500$ is lot less than 35Kmiles/500$ Good luck

I dont understand why many people on the board only get 35k or so out of their tires. My truck came with Goodyear Wrangler A/T's 215/75/16 LR-D changed them out at 84,000 miles. Went with Kumho's 235/85/16 LR-D at $534. 00 mount, balance, tax out the door price for 6 tires. Changed them out at 191,000 went with another set of Kumho's. Zero troubles out of the first set. I usually run my tire pressure at 65 lbs. on all 6 tires and rotate at every 10,000 miles religiously. I have spent lees than 1200. 00 on truck tires since i bought the truck new... ... now has 208,000.
This truck is used in an oilfield hotshot business. So it is kept loaded on a daily basis.
BTW... i use the old tires on my trailer, so there is enough tread to still be legal on them. Atleast enough to satisfy DOT for a little while.

Thanks 243 for the complement on my webpage. I've had two Dodge 2500 Cummins trucks in the last year. The first truck was a 4x4 QC LWB, and I put 265/70R19. 5 Yokohama TY303A tires on. It made the ride pretty rough--too rough for me. I then decided to buy a smaller, regcab 2wd 6spd. I have gone with Michelin XZA 225/70R19. 5 tires. I like them a lot. The ride is not comprimised very much. The handling is much better. After 9k miles, there is absolutely no visible wear. I highly recommend them. BTW, the whole package (tires, wheels, simulators, mounting & balancing, and shipping) was only $2200. I got a little better deal because I had already bought a previous set from Rickson, and the silver was a little darker than normal. I ended up selling my stock 2000 wheels/tires for $550. So the whole package only cost me $1650. I think it was a good buy. Good luck in your endeavor.

Michael

The new tires look cool, but one word of caution from an old truck guy. I have own all different make and models of trucks and tinkered with them in every way imagineable. The only caution is that taller tires require taller gears, if you plan on doing any serious towing. Your spedo is just and indicator of what is going on in your transmission and diff. If your goal is looks and highway speed there is no problem, but if may want to tow anything with it down the road, the taller tires will significantly alter your gear ratios. Just a word from the voice of experience... ... ... #ad
