Original owner of a 2005 2WD crew cab SLT Big Horn 2500 long bed. Just shy of 280,000 miles. It's been a great truck but the lure of a new one is calling me. Curious if anyone has sold / traded something similar and what you got for it. I did try one dealer and was offered $3k in trade, quite a bit under KBB trade value. I'd say it's in good shape, no wrecks, original 48RF trans & original injectors, so if I were to keep it I might preemptively replace those. A few other issues that could require attention eventually, dealer says suspension is starting to loosen up although it drives fine, in some ways felt better than the 2020 I tried a month ago. Minor leak from rear end where drive shaft seal is.

You sell it yourself. New dealers don't deal with this age miles and send it to auction. Beware new trucks are in short supply due to shutdowns over the past year.

Not sure where you're at. but I got near 15k for mine and bought a 2020 that was on sale 11k off.... No hassles.. they put it on their lot for 19k and it sold in a week. I probably could've squeezed another 2k out of it if I wanted to deal with COVID / FB / Craigslist tire kickers, etc. but I paid 20K for it 10y ago and so I felt that was fair... I took off some of my MODs,,, but nobody biting on them. Guess nobody wants parts for a 17y old truck :) Its worth asking your dealer of choice what they'll do, you never know, I know the local dealer here likes to have a couple "lures" on the lot so they can try to talk em up to a used 4th gen (more money) or a new one.

Depends where you are at. I"m in the Northwest and I just bought an 03 in December with 128,000 miles on it with new injectors and a rebuilt transmission for $18K from the original owner. It has a scrape on one side of the bed but other than it's a unmolested truck. When I was looking it was hard to find out at a reasonable price. You're truck should bring around $8-10k if it's a straight truck from what I experienced looking for mine.

just bought a aux tank from a guy here in NC that just sold his 05 2wd for 14k.. 300k on the clock and clean truck 6spd he said

Thanks for the info everyone. I'm in California, agree about the 2WD, although the 2020 I looked at was 2WD. Might go 4WD this time, not sure I'll stay here once retirement hits. It's seen snow a few times, not sure 4WD would have been much benefit, more a case of good or bad tires. Speaking of which, I typically get close to 120k+ miles out of set of Michelin LTX's, 4WD folks get anywhere near that?

The resale on 4WD makes the $3k option cost new a rounding error... add $10k to the price of your old truck IF it was 4WD. Yes I am a 2WD fan even in snow country. 4WD was the most available and camping I did 4WD. 2WD mainly for MPG when it came off my bottom line.

Not yet wanting to sell, can't find what I want to replace it and might just keep it. I'll keep you in mind though if things change.
