Intermittent hammering noise from my 2006 jake break vacume pump diaphragm. Has any one else had this problem? I removed vacume pump and checked the bearings and the oil in it today.

The vacuum pump is sometimes a weak link. They can be failure prone. My first one failed at around 60k miles. The replacement was going strong at 230k when I sold the truck.

My jake brake vacume pump went out at about 50K. Buying from dealer is very expensive. Once you have the jake brake it is hard towing a large 5th wheel with out one.

The diaphram failed on mine at about 70K. I opted to replace it with a PacBrake. The jake with bad diaphram is for sale if anyone wants it. Replacing the diaphram would have been lots cheaper and so far, the performance seems quite similar. Can't be without an exhaust brake.

Mine just failed at 53K bearing went out. . Bypassed with non jake brake belt before it let loose. new pump from Geno's. . $359 Dealer $1200

When my first vacuum pump failed at 60k miles on my '06 back in '06 I purchased a new vacuum pump from a Cummins distributor for about $135 and a mechanic friend installed it for about $25. The replacement pump was still working fine at 230k when I sold the truck in January '08.
