It's time to collect the BS and find out which dealer has the best line. A Dodge dealer in H ouston told me that the 2003 3/4 and 1 ton would have a choice of engines, Cummins and Mercedes. Chevy has the Allison for only one year so Dodge is picking it up. You would also have the choice of the Mercedes transmission. At one point he made the statement " It will have an improved transmission " Does this mean that they are going to hire BK up there in far far north Texas to do whats right. OK! go talk to your dealer. JBell in Houston

I know that dealer on 45 near Friendswood, and he hasn't changed. More stories than a --- Take off his boots, knock the B***S*** out of 'em and you could bury him in a match box. Tell him to stick with that story but you'll wait until '07!

Allison isn't the end-all of transmissions. I did some reading on the MB automatics, their "Powertrain" brand, and they look pretty nice. It appears that they have a nice 5- or 6-speed model that will fit in a light-duty truck and take the power of a Cummins. I'm hoping this will find it's way into the new HD's, since the Allison probably won't.

If they do, I'll give it a year or so, and then trade up. Much as I like my 6sp, I'd much rather have a GOOD automatic for a truck. It's just a whole lot more pleasant to drive.
