Guys I,m furiously P$$OFF at chrysler for using that badly put together steering gear box. I went to the dealer to have them check it out, after an hour the mechanic came and told me that I needed a new gear box since the one In the truck was shot. Mind you I've only put 5k miles on the truck. had to wait three weeks for the new one to arrive. After putting the new one in, the truck steered perfictly strate and tight. I was very happy to see that until I got home to check there work. steering fluid all over the front end bumper and under the hood also onn the ground. Now the second new unit has a defective seal on the side that faces the ground which holds the gear guts. So they. ve ordered me a third one. Guys if the first two were defective what is going to garantee me the third one is any better. Please guys If you have any advise I would appreciate it.

I dont know what to tell you about the steer box other than it aint right but I do believe I would be looking for a new dealer if they cant straighten it out.
My dealer gave me too much bull right off the bat on the truck I ordered and guess what I got my down money back and went down the road 20 miles and bought one off the lot, since than I have steered 3 others clear from this joint and they deserve every bit of it.
My motto is do it right or dont do it at all

CHOU56,

Why are you mad at Dodge? They didn't build
the box a person that does'nt work for them
did. Sounds to me like you need to find him
(or her)& kick his (or her) butt.

Rick, I gotta dissagree. DC is 100% responsible for quality of parts that go in it's products. I test software for computers that run banks, NY stock exchange, airlines, etc... and I can tell you that if I let outside contractors software bugs slip through my testing I'd be jobless in seconds after it was discovered. DC is not properly qualifying the vendors and not doing proper spot checks on what the vendors send them. The BIGGEST reason the Japanese completly kicked our butts in the auto and consumer electronics industry in the last 30 years is relentless QUALITY checking. DC has fantastic engineering departments. However, EVERYONE in the DC Quality Assurance organization should fired imo. THEY are responsible more than anything for the current layoffs. Just my opinion...

I have to agree with Dane. I have a '96 Dodge Ram gasser that had blown head gasket, steering box replaced, two oil leaks from the intake manifold under warranty and just last month a rebuilt auto trans at $1,800 out of my pocket. Just 62K miles driving it like a car.

I bought my 2000 Cummins Ram in May and hope it holds up better than my '96 is.

I've owned Fords, Chevys, Dodges and Toyotas.
Had problems with all except Toyota. Sold my '90 4X4 truck for $7K w/ 170K miles on it and my wife's '91 Corolla for $2,000 w/ 234K miles on it.

DC and the other big 3 have to understand that Americans must have quality to keep our business.

My 2 cents!

Guys! as I promised to tell you what happens.
Well this time they took two days to put in another new steering gear box. when I went to pick up the truck, I found out that they had put fifty two miles on the truck and I had to keep the steering wheel turned to the left about thirty degrees from center to keep the truck going strait. course they had no idea how the mileage was put on the truck.
I'm very disgusted with some of these dealerships and the crapy thing I still have to get my truck fixed. Help...

If the truck steers good do your self a favor and center the steering wheel yourself, loosen the bolts on the linkage from the steering gear and turn the tube and drive the truck, may take several trys as a little makes alot of change, when wheel is centered align clamps and the saftey rod and retighten bolts .

Come on, why are we still paying Microsoft millions of $ and we get worse crap? Us Americans have not learned yet! Maybe if I smack myself a few more times with this claw hammer I will think that pain is fun...

Really, software for our computers is at the lowest point ever. Heck, the government even uses it. They are planning on making smart ships that run exclusively Microsoft software, to save money. .

Hey folks down there, I'm having some pretty serious wandering on my new rig myself. the dealer in Seattle (Bellview) says he has never heard of such a thing on a Dodge. The dealer in Whitehorse (Metro) says to drive 5K and wait till the problem goes away, can you believe that. I insisted on test driving one of his rigs on the lot to compare and he was mad, the lot rig went pin straight. I've had 3 allignments done, first 2 by him (Dave) and the last one by me. The caster on the front axle was set out of spec. to "heavy" up the steering. . Kinda sounds like spreading peanutbutter over a piece of s**t to make it taste better. I called my dealer in Seattle and demanded a new steering gear box pronto!!!

Horseman Mechanical in Whitehorse said Dave at Metro won't send rigs thier way because the're straight shooters, thank god somebody is!!!! WHAT A GOATROPE!!! I'm ****** . This ruined my 4 day vacation cause Metro din't hit the nail on the head when they knew exactly what was going on!!!!

IMO if DC was truely committed to quality assurance and customer satisfaction they would grab the bull by the horns and design a steering box specifically for our trucks and tell GM where to put thier steering box..... on GMC's and Chevy's of coarse #ad
