Cummins and Duramax owners agree!

Diesel or Gas Generator

What happens when you rev a big truck about 3200 RPM's too fast??

The driver of this thing was recorded as saying, "I dunno what happened. . "

According to the ECM record in this truck, that is what happened:

4th gear at 72MPH. . OUCH!

The really could ruin your whole day.

green grenade eh? :-laf:(:-laf:( yeah, that would be a real bummer, but kinda funny in a way. i guess he might have been going for 9 but hit the range box on the way there... is that a 60 series detroit? [the color of it and the shape of it look like it... ]

That's too bad... .

I've heard good things about the series-60 Detroit's..... not that my opinion will now suddenly change from this guy's mishap.

Take more pics of the carnage/rebuild process... . I'd like to see 'em... .

I think it was a detroit. Since talking to the shop manager, I find out that the guy also ruined the trans at the same time! You are right, I would not hold this against them. Not the motors fault!

They have had excellent luck wiht these engines in the fleet.

Just goes to show you that just cause you gradumicated from a bone-a-fyed truck drivin school... . it dont uhuh mean that your dad aint yer bruther if-uns yoooz gets mye meanin.....

Tell you what...

I am just about done with driving school (still have to take the passenger test for a "P" endorsement). The school uses Freightliners with 400 hp Detroits. I think they were 60 series. Anyway, no weight but those engines take a beating from people having their first exposure to a ten speed.

3500 rpm is all?

I would have figured closer to 5500 in 4th, unless he had some HIGH rear end gears. How did he get it to go in? I drive a couple old INternational farm trucks, and they wont go into gear outside a 75 rpm range, clutch or not; you gotta match rpms, gear and road speed. I know a guy who has a BC Cummins (not sure if it is a I, II, III, or IV) that turns 2900. Screams like a banshee over 2500; first truck I had ever driven, and the mechanic had me stay in it till 2700 or so beofre shifting. I've learned a lot since then. KNowing how to keep it between the ditches, shift w/o grinding, and turn a corner w/a 35' grain trailer got me a $. 50 raise 2 hours after I started my current job.
