Check it out fellas, this crane did all the large and heavy lifts for our new plant, some of the vessels are 200 feet tall. It takes 4 guys to drive this rig, 1 guy for each set of tracks and 1 guy to coordinate the trick, it also takes 1 guy to run all the hoist operations . I was in true amazment when watching the major lifts. As you can see in some of the pics that the thing has to drive on 3/4 plywood and the actual lift site has 16" x16" ties that it sits on, they string the ties out and bolt them all together like a big pad, when they get to the lift site they rotate the back set of tracks 90 degrees from the front ones and that is how they swing the load into place. I had an opertunity of a life time watching this rig do its job.

Check out the big counter weights on the back, they fill them with gravel, we once had the counter weights twice that high !!! and of course they have to use another crane to put them on but we had 17 cranes on site so no biggie.

By the way... ... ... MMcLain is responsible for this pixel crap, I dont like it ... ..... I is puter ill... ... itterate oh and Marshal is also a dip stick too heheheh

How's that saying go? Can't teach an old dog new tricks!!!!!!! You give them a book to learn and they eat it, or in this case you give a new keyboard and he still eats it:--) :D :D

Interesting piece of machinery. . :) It did remind me of "Big Blue" though..... the one that fell to the ground (killed 4 ?? steelworkers as well) while building the POS roof for Miller Park. And yes... the d*** thing is still leaking and making all kinds of noise... Mitsubishi Heavy Industries created a nightmare for themselves with the roof.

Now for my ??s

Could this particular crane be a so called *cousin* of Big Blue??? Not sure if I remember right... . but my mind is saying that Lampson was also the one that owned "Blue".

Ah... . the things that pop into the head at 2am. :D  ;)

A little off the subject here. Whitmore your e-mail box is full. Somebody I work with might be interested in a machinest job.

Actually the motor is a Detroit silver 8V-92, it powers everything.

This thing is very slow at everthing it does, you almost gotta drive stakes to see if it is moving

I will clean out my PM box

Here's one I saw on Monster Machines

Saipem S7000

Max. Capacity 31,300,000 lb

12 diesel generators producing 70 MW.

Fireman Dave,

you are right... . there arent many of these around. maybe 3 at the most. I remember the *fallout*... so to speak, after the Big blue accident regarding the Miller Park project, and the other projects it was supposed to get to afterwards. Kinda hard to do work without 'er. I beleive the replacement one for Blue was overseas somewhere and brought in ASAP.

As for the cranes here..... can I have one for my sandbox??? Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. and the BIG diesels too of course. :D Only TDR members allowed into the sandbox. ;)

Run 8 all the way... ... . Got Diesel?.

Whitmore, that is some machine. Did the Hotshot operator who delivered this machine use an auto or manual in his Dodge???

Hi EMD Diesel Power, not to nitpick, but those were Ironworkers that died in the accident not Steelworkers. Steelworkers work in the steel manufacturing industry, Ironworkers hang iron, this is a very common error made in the media. It took 17 semi loads to deliver and 30 days to put it together, I wish I woulda found out the $$$ per day

We had it at the jobsite for almost a year!

That looks like the crane used at the Conoco Lake Charles refinery to replace a crude tower.

We used the crane one time. Lift the old crude tower out, drop the new one in. All in one piece.
