if the dash has to crack, i guess this would be the best way to do it. . it found a relief point at the heater vent. and honestly, it is so clean and sharp it almost looks like it is a factory joint.

Mine's been rugged up from new,as was my '98. 5. No cracks yet. The molded Dashmat is a huge improvement over the Frankenstitch units of the past.

I bought a dashmat for my 2002 gasser when new. After I wore that truck out in 4 years traded it in for the diesel. I pulled the dashmat and threw it on the new dash. I guess it is 11 years old and still shading.

That is a good place to get a crack if it is going to happen! That may be caused by cold shrink where you live!
 
My '04 has a crack in the exact same spot as the picture in the original post... in addition to two others. I had my neighbor, who is a certified Maryland state vehicle inspector take a look at my truck and he said that depending on which inspection station I use, I might fail because of the crack. Gotta love Maryland. Might be a good idea to put a dash cover on just in case...
