Hey all,

Has anyone ever converted a 2wd from a 2-piece drive shaft to a 1-piece?

I am only asking as I have 187k miles on my truck and still running the factory u-joints. I have replaced the Carrier bearing as the rubber was compressed and starting to break loose. I do from time to time have a clunk or pop when rolling forward from a stop when cold out but I contribute that to the traction bars that I added back at 85k miles.

Any pro's con's to a swap like this? I have a shop near me that says that they can change the mount in the rear of the G56 from a bolt flange to a slip yoke style but that still seems like a REALLY long 1-piece shaft.

Driveshaft specialists in San Antonio, TX are saying that it cant be done or changed over.

Yup, I would never waste money repairing a 2pc drive line again, the 1pc is so much smoother its really surprising how much difference it made especially on acceleration. I went with the factory Mopar one for my 06 Mega cab.

A good driveshaft shop has all the formulas to make the decision on if it is safe to build a one piece shaft.

Thanks Bob. I think I've got a few places to call and see what can be done.

I've been qouted by drive shaft king in DFW 325$ for 3 joints and balancing if shaft is straight.

Oh ok. You think it can be done on a 2wd? My concern is overall shaft length

From your signature I gather you have a short bed so I would be surprised if it would be too long but as Bob mentioned a good drivline shop could tell you. I dont know the length difference on the transmission between a 48RE with transfercase and 68RFE with a 2 WD tailshaft housing.
