I know that the administration's point of view is that is war is not about the West against Islam, but as each day passes I am seriously questioning this point of view. I am not saying that we in the US are want to make it a religious war, but that those in the Mid-East and other Islamic nations WANT this to be a war of Isalm against the West.

We hear the leaders of these far off nations say that they support us, but the pictures and vidio of their people chanting "Death to America" and praising Osama bin Scumbag for a job well done in places like Egypt, Lebanon, the West Bank, Indoniesa, Iran, etc... has really started to change my mind about things.

There has not been much said from the Islamic leaders here in the US condeming this attack. Yes, there have been people on the TV and Radio explaining what the Koran says in certain passages, but it seems to me that the Koran leads itself too easily to be misinterpreted and then used to brainwash the ingorant people in most of these Muslium countries.

I hope it doesn't turn out that the West may have to turminate some 400, 500, 600, etc million Musliums just to survive, but I don't think that this terrorism will all go away or be minimized by just attacking terrorist bases/camps and killing some of their ring-leaders.

So what's your thoughts ... is it a Islam vs. the West or do you think that it really is just the Civilized world vs. these rouge terrorists?

It's civilization against the terrorists. About the foriegn leaders, they are under just as much or even more threat from the brainwashed masses. Yes, it is a marriage of convenience, but they have just as much motivation to solve the problem as we do.

Haven't spent enough time studying the Koran to comment on its interpretability, but I do believe that the same practices are used by people claiming to be Christians while using the bible for justification.

What do you want to hear from the Islamic leaders? Hope it is more thoughtful and reasoned than what Jerry Falwell had to say.

There are some fundamental issues in the middle east that must be addressed. But don't think we need to terminate the masses. Did you see the memorials left in front of the US embassies throughout the middle east? Did you see the footage of Afghan refugees waving the good ole stars and stripes inside Afghanistan?

No - certainly not west vs east, although that is what the brainwashers over there hope that you come to believe - along with the middle east people on the other side of the world. So resist the thought and you too will become part of the solution.

It is civilization against terrorism, but unfortunately, religion is going to play a tremendous role in the months and years ahead. Wars fought over or that involve religious dogma are for the most part, irreconcilable.

If you were an Afghani in downtown Kabul watching US peace protesters on CNN would you think the Americans are a bunch flower punk wimps? The majority of Muslims hate terrorists as much as we do, the media is just showing you the ones that make the most noise.

This war of terrorism will turn in to more than that. I have not doubt about it. When will it end? Where will we be when it's over? What will life be like in ten years? Who knows.

Islam

Islam teachs peace and understanding. Not war and hate. The rhetoric by Usama and his merry Taliban is radical to say the least. Something like the hate spewed by some of our religious leaders all in the definitions of what they interpet as morals. The leaders of Islam have said that they are supposed to police their own religion and agree they have let it get out of hand. Now we have to clean up the mess. And put our people in harms way in a "holy war".

This is not a war against Islam

What the media is showing is footage to keep people watching TV. Similar to the TV show survivor, they lead you to one conclusion by what they allow you to see. That simple.

What needs to happen is that we need to attack bin Laden's 'corporate culture'. They brainwash people at these camps to ideals that will sustain their activities with very little direction from up top in the organization. That is what we need to challenge and attack. It may help the public feel safe when bin Laden has been dealt with but that won't stop these cells for continuing on. The war has begun. Anyone remember seeing the multi-religion gatherings on TV? Showing that everyone can get along. It is attacking the culture that they can't coexist and that one has to win out over the other. It has nothing to do with Islam. They (bin Laden's group) are using it for their own gains. Just like every lawyer has their own version of the law.

Sad

What I have seen and heard about Afganastan, the majority of the people have not even heard about the WTC or the Pentagon attacks. They have no TV and very few radios. They are lucky to have running water and electricity... ... .

IMHO I believe it will turn into a Islam against the west before it is over. I also think the first mistake we make in this war(as in bombing the wrong people or something similar)will turn many of our so-called allies away. Such as Pakistan,Saudi, and the rest of the Islam dominated countrys. You can be sure that the Taliban will be spouting all kinds of atrocities as soon as the action starts. Our news media will be blowing things up also.....

This thread got me to thinking, and you never know where I'll go with that.

Holy wars and religion. I'm thinking about the crusades. I've never studied them, but maybe it's time I did.

I've read Trinity by Leon Uris, and my great grand father was an Irish immigrant. That book made me look at religion a whole lot differently.

It's alot like the slave owners of the deep South, if you keep them ignorant you have power over them.

Is this how the terrorist leaders manage to persuade their suicide bombers?

I support our fighting men and women who are defending our way of life, but I'm just hoping that the ignorent ******* that was lied to by Ossama gets to see the light before it engulfs him.

Holy war?

I can understand it being a Holy war if we were spreading Christianity throughout the country. However, it is a war about stopping the senseless killing of innocent people just to prove that you have to balls to do it. Many people in our own country are trying to dish out their own form of justice based on relion. We have forgotten that Christianity was spread through Jesus who was born into the Jewish faith. Now, the Jewish faith has a prophet called Abraham who is also found in the Muslim faith. We all call "God" by different names, but we know that it is a higher being that we believe in. Bin Laden is a terrorist outside of the nation, but what about the terrorists inside our nation? The environmental extremists, the Skinhead groups, ect? How do we deal with them... with a slap on the wrist or total annihiation??

Just something to think about...
