The fire captain quoted in the article is a former student of mine. I'm going to try and find out if there are any other specifics that he can share about this incident. The biggest question I have is if they have been able to source the container that blew. I know that the article states that it hit a car in the windshield when it exited the truck. However, do they know if it was the one that blew or one that was simply blown out in the explosion.

Someone at Matheson Tri Gas is in deep trouble if they blessed that load....guess they weren't all empty.....:D

I would surmise from the looks of the tanks age wise that they were headed in to be recertified or recycled.....see a lot of forklift tanks...

Matheson shows up almost weekly at our shop. They've always been very legit with their loads - every single tank caged and chained, including the ride up and down on the lift gate. I'd be shocked if this was one of their rigs. It would definitely be against company policy from what I have seen.

Yes, I agree. I was only poking fun at them..

They are 100% about doing it right.

Had to be an outside carrier / supplier and the destination was simply Matheson.

When in the Air Farce I was working on the flight line STATE SIDE. On fighter aircraft the hydraulic actuators used Nitrogen to act as a buffer especially on control surface actuators to prevent damage, like a shock absorber. Anyway we used a GIANT bottle of compressed Nitrogen and call AGE (Aero Space Ground equipment) to come get the bottle off the line. The YOYO didn't use the screw-on safety cap just loaded it and drove off. Maybe 50 yards away the bottle fell off broke off the valve.

WOW!!! it skidded along the concrete THROUGH a hanger full of Pantie Waste FMS boys that weren't tuff enough to work in OMS across a parking lot and into the Flight line shack. The First Sargent came out WANTING SOMEONES XXX Naturally we all pointed to ANYONE BESIDES THEMSELVES. That was the BEST Training of the Dangers of Compressed Gasses I have ever seen.

I would have hated to be the guy explaining that to the 1st sarg and commander. I remember almost getting caught with carts, with-out cart can, while arming jets early a.m. at Incirlik Turkey. Scared me sh!tless cause I knew better and was Lead Crew person at time. QA was always lurking in the shadows. I never did that again.
