A friend of mine who used to work for Chrysler was visiting Detroit this past weekend and SAT in a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 $ Door pickup. He was checking out all the new vehicles. The new Viper, PT Cruiser, and yes a real 4 full size doors Ram with a Cummins in it. Thought you would like to know. Anyone seen one yet?

98. 5 QC 4x4 SWB, 24 Valve ISB, Delo 400 oil, Auto, Walker 21468 straight through muffler, no resonator, Airbox drilled, onboard GPS, 285-75-16's on Custom wheels, Every option but leather and overhead trip computer/compass. Emerald Green with Lund visor and stainless body trim. 30k gooseneck hitch. Tekonsha Sentinel brake controller. Maybe I'm stock, and maybe I'm not.

The real "NATURAL BORN PULLER"

Apparently the 'problem' with DC and variations on the RAM body style (i. e. crewcab, 4500,5500,etc) is not a lack of desire on their part, but rather the lack of production space. After they almost went under so many years ago it has been very hard for them to justify adding any factories.

This is the story as delivered by a DC employee in the 'know'.

It’s true DC suffers from a shortfall in capacity. The acquisition of Chrysler by Daimler didn’t immediately help either, Daimler’s European plants are all working at full capacity also. Chrysler could easily sell 250,000 PT Cruisers a year, but has no place to build them. It would seem an expansion at the plants in Mexico would be the most expeditious as it could be accomplished with the least red tape (except for the stink the UAW put up, of course). Even so, expect the new Ram to follow Ford’s lead in many ways…Doors, different body styles for HD and LD and improved fit and finish. The Cummins/Mercedes-Benz engine deal still has a lot of details to work out…but the MB could go into the super heavy duty trucks, or the 4-Banger could find its way into the next Dakota/Durango. Exciting isn’t it?

2001, 2500-155", QC, 4x4, ETH, 6-speed, Forest/Driftwood, color matched Rhino, first truck... delivered 3-24-00.

Only if quality improves. No matter how much I like this engine, if the truck around it and the service that is SUPPOSED to come with all of it doesn't improve, I'm not likely to remain a DC customer for new vehicles.

Then again, I don't suppose the alternatives are much better...

Alternatives are NO better! Just be glad you have the best engine anyway!

Did he comment on the body style other than the number of doors. Is it the current one or something new??
