I don't know where the ring gear went but it took most of the carrier with it upon departure....must have been an ungodly racket for a minute....

Dana Spicer forward unit. 46.000 lb I think.

Probably out of a logging truck. A moment of bad judgement by the driver or he was hooked behind a dozer going through a mud hole and got out of time with some slack in the chain....

They are trying to get all the wood out before spring break up so in many cases they are loading heavier and using semi frozen roads...and in the dark because it's colder...

I'm sure this one let out a bang too. What's interesting here, is that it's not what stopped the truck. In fact it drove right into the bay- on the brakes. What did it in was when the AC belt ate through a harness with a main air line in it because the engine was rotating so much.*

More carnage, it's what we live for here...I wonder if the driver tried to engage the axle lock while it was spinning. Note the broken shift fork...

46,000 lb with axle locks...referred to as "4 way" locks in this neck of the woods. Double splines on one axle, when the air assist collar slides over the second spine every thing locks, it is just like welding the spiders.. all go and no give.....

ATC (Traction Control) won't cut it up here in the mud and snow or with tire chains on...

It looks like the ring gear bolts failed, broke or came loose and filled the housing up with iron for the ring & pinion gears to chew on.
