Andy, you are right about p@**** off. What "rights" were given the young man that was killed. I don't understand how any lawyer can get up in a court and defend scum like this. Both ought to be put up against the wall and shot!

It's stuff like this that makes one wonder if all common sense has been lost. :(

 More than a flaw in the law it looks like prosecutors are quilty of stupidity. I wonder what price those IDIOTS will have to pay for this stupidity?

I'm sure the relatives of the innocent motorist that was killed could come up with a few suggestions.

So I guess that's the key to getting away with any kind of crime in Washington: Have your lawyer call in sick or dilly-dally in some other way, and after 60 days, you get to go free! What a great system! I'm sure all the gang members and career criminals are well aware of this, now!

I've come to believe the Legal System's major concern is it's own survival and prosperity. Why else are laws written in such convoluted language. Lawyers have the only profession which is allowed to legislate it's own rules--and we are paying the price. We ought to have a law that NO LAWYERS can be elected to Congress or to the Presidency.

The present fuzzy legal thinking, that letting this guy go free from his other conviction somehow insures our rights is complete baloney. Laws cannot and will not ensure anybody's rights. The only force which will do that is the force of a Man of integrity in a Position of power. Our system used to be this way. I remember when my Mother who was a voluntary school nurse for one of the Catholic Schools, went to the Chief of Police of our little town and told him a white trash girl from the other side of the Frisco tracks was being molested by her white trash father. Chief Dan McD. went and had a little "talk" with the guy and everybody noticed the girl was a lot happer after that. Whatever Chief Dan McD. "talked" to him about, the guy never again molested his daughter. My mother became the girl's friend and confidant, and made it her business to find out what was happening in the family. The girl became a relatively happy girl, who, by the way, really was gorgeous. She eventually married one of the sons of one of the town's wealthy families. (True story)

I would love to see scum like this be sentenced to live in their barristers homes for several years. Since they are such wonderful people, the barristers surely could not complain. ;)

Nowadays, that would be a violation of the father's rights, privacy, etc. The newsmedia would jump all over Chief McD, and ruin his image, causing him to resign in shame. What about the little girl? "That's not the issue, here," is what they'd say.

Typical story, very common. It only proves Laws do not protect us ( ie: Rape victim and crash victim ) but, I bet that all the Lawyers will continue to protect Mr. Smiths rights. I wonder if Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton will be heading out there to make sure. Too bad that women dialed 911 and not 357.

God Bless America, Land of opportunity.

Faith in Government

The prosecution, punishment, and pursuit of those who harm others... . The protection of the public from these kinds of individuals by thier incarceration or even execution, is probably the least disputed function of government. Nobody I have ever met believes this NOT the role of government. It is the ultimate expression of freedom, self-government and the rule of law. We carp more about it, probably make it one of the larger issues of elections, and spend large amounts of our public resources for it's accomplishment...

And yet, this stuff just seems to be much too far routine, seeing these stories almost daily on TV or newspapers. To put it bluntly... If the least arguable role of government is to prevent this kind of insanity... How on earth can we expect government to make economics, health care, environmental policy, and a huge host of other tasks, many of which are far less clear and obvious, when this is the result?

I can think of no better argument for limited government.

I just hope that after we take care of the terrorists we put our new "prison" in Cuba to good use. Barbed wire walls, peanut butter sandwiches and a spittoon commode sounds like a good place to keep some of these turds to me.

EXACTLY! I was glad to hear that the terrorists were going to be treated fairly, but that they would not be "comfortable!" I love it! America's prisons today are almost a resort! 3 squares a day, work out facility, free education, warm bed, free books. I even think they sometimes have cable tv and internet access, which is free! I think they should get the same food for every meal, water only, and NOTHING else. Prison should suck so bad, they never, ever want to come back.

This S. O. B. that was let out on a technicality should be taken out and shot. It is obvious that this individual is not capable of being a part of society. So, why pay to keep him around?

What about the ones who let him out?

I know someone in prison. He dosn't have to work(just work out), watchs TV, lays around, gets 3 squares, free education. The only thing he dosen't get is laid. The guy blows thru a red light and kills 2 people and this is how it is. There are homeless that have it worse than these idiots. I knew another guy that couldn't make it in society and liked life better behind bars. We have a web site in SLC that gives you address and photos of perps in your zipcode. There are some strange cats prowling around. None of them are after men, its all women and kids.
