So after buying a new wheel skins b/c the bozos @ discount tire didn't put one on right so it blew off on the road, I tried to put my new skin on. I've been trying for 2 weeks now and I can't get it back on. So far I've discovered thus:

1. ) You can't put one side completely on and then try to cram in the other side: the skin must go on all side at the same time

2. ) I don't have enough patience to deal with it!

The real funny thing is that I took it to discount again to have the tires rotated and I left the new skin on the passenger seat and the bozos didn't put it on b/c they said they didn't see it! Esch...

So does anyone know hte trick for these things?

What are you talking about?

What is a wheel skin? Is this another name for a tire or are you referring to something else?

Crouch down next to the wheel.

Start the bottom half about half way in.

Put your knees against the bottom half and just hold some tension on it. Don't worry about knee location, you just want to keep it from jumping out.

Hit the top half at about 10:30 & 2:30 (clock references). Wear gloved if you think it will hurt.

Finish by tapping with your palm or a RUBBER mallet. I'd go back and explain the situation, they should buy you one.

Az,

I use the same procedure as Extreme 1 with a big rubber mallet. It works great for me and the rubber mallet doesn't hurt the stainless skin.

Thanks for the advice guys. I took the truck to discount yesterday and I got to watch while they pounded and pounded for 10 min with no result. Finally they got pissed and got a pair of vice grips and bent all the tabs in a bit and wham! It went on no sweat. I was like, "Why didn't I try that?". I'm a bit worried that it might blow off, but if it does, I know which tech pounded it on so I'll be back asap if it happens.
