I never really noticed this before. I suppose it's possible this thin metal sleeves on the injector lines are supposed to go inside the injector line retaining clamps (the one w/ the 8mm bolts)

When I did my injector install, I never noticed these or that I had forgotten to do anything with them.

Guess what? THEY WILL CHAFE YOUR INJECTION LINES.

When I slid mine down the line, there was a clear mark on the injection line where they had been.

What are these things? They are stamped with a number on them. Are they identifying tags of some kind? Where are they supposed to be- in the holddowns?

Worthless until you have a missing CPL # and the cummins parts man doesnt know what you need. I have needed compressor lines on an 855 and had to give them the part #. I ordered three different lines on a state snow plow salt truck that had rotted the whole data plate off the motor and ford uses a lot of oddball stuff on the louisville trucks. It shouldn't be a problem on your truck, but it can be on some other applications. Jake

this very true. caterpillar are really bad for that. if you call them for any lines that have that tag on, you better have that number cause the parts guy isn't gonna know which way to turn to find it.

When they're not snug on the lines, they will float back and forth and round and round on the line. I was surprised at the level of noise this produced. I don't think you would hear it while sitting in the cab, but it is noticeable, once you see that they move.

I noticed this years ago on my '98. 5 and subsequently removed the little sleeves... problem solved!

CPL plate is where it should be and copies of that information are securely stored.

:D :D Whoops, I forgot about dealing with a parts guy that doesn't remember how he got to work:D :D

Criminy - the counter guys over here at Cummins West can't get me a part unless I supply derned near ALL the stamped info off the engine tag - as well as VIN and phase of the moon...

The computer age is great isn't it? Most of these guys can't look anything up without your mothers maiden name. A guy at Cummins Northeast didn't want to give me a Stratapore filter because it didn't fall under my engine serial number. Gave the same guy the part number for a 180 degree thermostat... . didn't want to give me that either, said it wasn't for my truck, here is the part number you need. I said just give me the part number I asked for. Then of course there is the dealer, tire shop broke a hub cap on my truck so they ordered a new one and got the wrong one in, so I go to order it and tell them 2001 3500 front wheel cover... Is it a dually? Well since that's the only way 3500's came in 2001 I guess it is, and it's the big outer cover not the center hub cap, guess what I get? Yup center hub cap, finally I bring in the part I need and take the part number off it and give it to them. I miss the good parts guys, one day I walked into a NAPA with a part number written down for the carburator on my Farmall, the guy looks at it before I even said a word and goes, International? Well yes a Farmall, he knew from the part number what is was.

IH parts are easy to identify by the # as most of them end in R1, C1, or R91, C91 ect. R is for revision and C is for correction I think. Jake
