All, i dont make a habit of racing, but had someone that was being obnoxious next to me at a light... . reving his engine and what not..... dont know what he had done to his truck besides an exhaust (it was loud)..... raced him to about 70 (traffic got in the way)..... we were neck and neck to about 55-60 and then he pulled ahead..... but I think I could have had him had I gotten 4th to lock... . I know if I dont have it floored, it locks 3rd and 4th..... but I was nervous so I floored it... . probably didnt help with the acceleration as I think it prevented locking 3rd and 4th (I was in tow/haul mode)... . any how, jsut wanted to share, and I also thought titans were much faster... . he was in a double cab, 4x2... and I'm a stock double cab 4x4..... he's gotta have a weight advantage. Have been weighing the pros and cons of getting a juice / attitude vs. warranty concerns... . sure would have been nice to have had it... .
 
No damage done. Put a 2000 pound load in his bed and THEN run 'em.



I hate half tons acting like they're a REAL truck. The fact that they are usually faster only proves that a lighter truck running gasoline can overcome the laws of physics quicker than a diesel that weights 2000 pounds more...



The fact that you hung with him for the most part is a testament to the power of today's diesels. Wish my '91 Ford diesel has the power of the new trucks. :) I'm stuck with her for another 2-3 years.
 
I had the same situation with a young gentleman in a standard cab Hemi 1500 a couple of weeks ago... . we hung totally together until I backed off at 65... . he's probably stil amazed at what a stock '05 CTD will do.

Yeah, toss a Juice/attitude in there. pull outa the hole in 4x4 and put like 4 truck lenghts on him. then change lanes get in front. back off a bit and gun it and send some HP his way in the form for soot :)
 
Its sure fun beating people that think they are bad. I had a similar situation with a mitsubishi eclipse. One of the old 4 bangers with a turbo charger. He pulled up to me revving his engine wanting to race. We took off dead even at the light but once my turbo spooled it was goodbye. I was about 2 lengths ahead of him by the next light and when he finally got there he wasn't revving his engine no more. He was a good sport though and flashed me the peace sign. I think that he was totally amazed that a 7000 lb diesel truck beat him. It was sure fun!
 
I don't know about racing from a dead stop, but from 60 mph my 4. 5 with a pipe and afe drop in filter eats toyota v 8s for lunch. I was cruising east of San Diego on I-8 going up a long 5 or 6% grade when a toyota v 8 2 wheel drive came along side and looked me over. I put the pedal down, he shifted down out of od but it did not matter. I pulled at least 8 lengths on him at the top of the hill. I was doing over 100mph. i reset the computer and read 6 mpg! After getting back to a close to legal speed, the toyota stayed in my wake for another 50 miles before taking an exit. I think I made a believer out of him!

Do they make an EZ for the 05's? And is the EZ just a pressure box? or does it do timing / duration? I'm looking at either a J/A Combo or ISSPRO Guages and Smarty... ... will the EZ Play nice with a Smarty? (if the EZ does timing, I dont think it will)... .
 
Yes, the EZ for the 04. 5 is also for use on the 05.

And, yes, the EZ is a pressure box and boost fooler.



If you go for the J/A combo you are going to need a built transmission very soon ;)



The 3rd gen Smarty is still under development, but I imagine it will have HP numbers like a Bully Dog Downloader. And once again, trans work will be in your very near future!



If you are willing to accept getting your transmission upgraded, you could purchase the EZ now, then when the 3G Smarty is released stack em :D

I see no reason why they wouldn't work together(guys? :-{} )

I was in a hurry to get home one night and was on a state highway 55mph speed limit and there are a few stop lights. Well on every green I was mashing the pedal to the floor, well at one of the lights a BMW X5 pulls next to me ( a guy and his wife) they are both looking at me and kinda smiling and then they turn to each other and start the talking. So I of course don't hesitate and put the egde on level 5/5 and when that light turn green he hit it and so did I. He got a bit of a jump on me but after that it was see ya later. The next light he wouldn't even pull up next to me. :-laf



There is nothing better than a big truck plenty of smoke and walking away from most cars off the line.

That would have been a 6 cyl 3. 0L X5. The V8 would have given you a surprise :eek:
 
Ya, it definetely was not at least the 4. 6IS but the 3. 0 AND 4. 4 have the same look to them of course he wouldn't get next to me after. Either way I was happy specially since he wouldn't pull up next to me.
 
I got some good “stop-light” encounter stories...



1) I was driving home once, before I was bombed. I had a kid pull up to me at every light revving and racing his engine in a 04-2005-ish Silverado 1500 (Z71 Off-road) Finally I said screw it as I was getting annoyed. Keep in mind my truck was bone stock 325/600 4x4 3:73 w/ heavy Ranchhand grille guard, and heavy Tool-Box and Tools in the back. Light turns green, I hear his tires squeal and he get’s me by a truck length for the first 4-5 seconds, or until the turbo spooled up, then I started reeling him in, by about 60-65 I was at his side and passing him around 70ish then shut it down, because I was way over the posted 45 mph speed limit. Anyway It felt absolutely awesome, as I’ve driven a Silverado 1500 w/ 5. 3L and could have sworn it felt quicker than my stock 5. 9L Cummins did, but boy was I surprised and wrong.



2) Guy pulls up next to me in a brand new lifted F-150 with probably a 4-6" lift and some spiffy big shiny chrome bling bling wheels. His girl was in the passenger seat, and starring and smirking at me in my CTD. Guy starts inching up like he wants to run. I look over and turn the Edge/ juice-Attitude up to 3x5 as soon as the light turned green, I actually waited for this clown to jettison-off, as I was that confident in my baby. I mashed the gas after counting off about a ½ second and waited for the boos to come on, My tires broke loose mid-way through the intersection, and I went by this clown waving bye-bye at his hot girlfriend in the Passenger seat, it was an absolute thrill. I too hate when these squares or yuppies think they are real-truck guys because they bought a half-ton and jacked it way up in the air.



3) I’m coming back from my girls house, on a two lane road when I get stuck behind a Volkswagen G T I VR6 looked like a newer model 2004 ish. Anyway he had an exaaust modification, and looked like maybe a lowering kit. Anyway he starts triving like 5 mph under the 55 mph posted speed limit? No reason no one else is around. We come up on a turn out or passing lane, and I thought he would get over and let me around, but he didn’t so I went into the right lane and started to go around. As soon as I break right and start to go (Not floored) he speeds up, problem is it’s a very short merge, so I back down. And he’s going 5 mph under again by now I’m getting agitated because nothing is worse than when you get behind some clown that for what ever reason wants to play games. Finally about 5 miles up we come to another passing lane and I’m like screw it, I turned the edge/ juice up to 5x5 and waited for the lock, and floored it. Right when I hear his rice mobile go down a gear? I’m thinking dude I am not trying to race you or play games, I just want to move on from behind you. I pass this clown, with ease but now he is behind me and riding my bumper. Then he has the nerve to go around me illegally on the on coming side, I slow because I don’t want to cause an accident. And he passes me kicking up rocks and debris at my truck from the middle of the road. I’m hot now, another mile goes by and we come up to a traffic light together. We stop but he overshoots the intersection, and keeps inching forward revving the crap out of his mouse mobile. I just waited for the light about 20 feet back were I was supposed to be. Light changes, and I went by him almost like he was sitting still, then got off the throttle waited for him to catch up, then passed him again, then adjusted the low-boost fuel and left him in a black cloud of death.

No offense guys, but some times I wonder if your "competitors" know you're racing them. My 06 runs fine, and as well as any other stock 06 CTD, but quite frankly, with the turbo lag this thing can't get out of its own way (yes, I power brake it to build boost from a stop, and that helps), and when there isn't a lag, it's so damned heavy. Granted, it does ok for the weight, but quick or fast it is not. My old '98 1500 with the 245 hp 5. 9 gasser is so much more lively and fun to drive (I sold it to a buddy, so I still get to compare). I haven't raced them yet, but I'd bet on "Old Red. "



Hopefully when I get a Juice/Attitude the thing will liven up.

Sounds like you need something to wake up your off-boost fueling :D

I'm not saying that mine is the worlds fastest truck, and dont really care, was just conveying what happened to me...

Maybe your not driving it right? My 2nd Edge/ Juice Attitude just took a dump so I have had to remove the unit entirely from my truck. Even completely stock again, my 325/ 600 '05 still runs like a bat out of hell, it ain't a Lightning or SRT-10 but I know it feels quicker than most middle offering gasser pickups. Also I think when you can hear the cars coffe-can muffler or a trucks tires spinning, that means they are at WOT? But I could be wrong...

I'm not knocking you by any means. And I can appreciate a good win - it feels good. :D While beating (or close to it) a Titan is cool :-laf , me beating a 2002 Camry just doesn't do it for me. :rolleyes:



Through my employer, I get to drive a bunch of different vehicles (stock Acuras and Hondas), and just for kicks, I'll race 3rd gen CTD trucks. And when it does seem like they want to race (we're a competitive group, you know :-laf ), I've never lost while driving these other vehicles.



Oh, and realistically, the only time you'd hear their mufflers or spinning tires is when they're in front of you ;) - you're not likely to hear their muffler if they're behind you.



By no means is this a flame to anyone here, and I'm sorry if I offended any of you. I just find that these CTD trucks are kind of pigs in stock form.



And maybe I'm not driving it right. I guess it's kind of like dirt bikes. When I rode my slow XR200R on a few rides instead of my YZ250, it made me a better rider riding such a slow bike. Maybe driving such a slow truck will make me a better driver as well :cool: :-laf .
