I been pondering if I should pull out my Air BullDog ram air setup (under the hood) and just run an airfilter, using the engine comparment air thats a lil warmer? Although my scoops will still let air flow under the hood. Truck always seems happiest when its in the 60's outside.

I'm just wondering if the outside air is "too cold" now that its below 25° mostly now?

Thoughts?

Kat,

Did you get your B-1 yet? I am considering buying one but would like to get some input from someone with an auto.

Thanks,

Doug

I should think you'd want cool (or cold) dense air. The turbo is going to heat the air anyway, and the cooler will only take out so much heat.

Once the engine warms up enough, it should run like a raped ape regardless of the outside temp. Provided, of course, that your fuel heater is working properly. As long as the fuel is 40-80F, it should atomize well enough, thus burn well enough. Specifically, once the cylinder and piston warm up enough, the fuel will evaporate enough, it won't condense on the cylinder walls, and the heat of compression will heat the cold air enough to properly ignite the fuel.

Besides, since the engine doesn't generate all that much excess heat, it shouldn't get too warm under there anyway when running 30-80MPH.

I'd leave the ram air in place.

My truck runs its best with the air at about 55-60 degrees.

It actually seems to make more HP when the air is a tad warmer.

I did a 348HP before my current mods back in August in 100 degree weather. With the same mods in 42 degree weather it went 343HP. Weird huh? I looked at the actual HP not the corrected for temps and such.

Nope still waiting on it... ..... I know Kurt's out of town right now. And as far as I know I will be the first "auto" truck to have it.

Kat, I just took my Psychotty housing off for this same reason and I'm just running an open Re-0880 filter right now. My truck now warms up faster and seem to be smoother on really cold days (0 deg).

I have installed cold air fronts from lund on really cold days( 20 or lower). I noticed that my engine is noisier and wont warm up with all that cold air going through the intercooler. By blocking the air the engine warms to operatin temps faster and runs quiet and I am sure gets better fuel milage as there is a more complete combustion. It makes sense that super cold air cant be all that great for your engine I agree with previous post about 50 is the optimin temp for power and milage. Dave:)
