Let me get this straight. You keep the old turbine from the stock 12cm2 housing when adding the 16cm2 housing and the standard exhaust brakes will still mount up?

Hemi, I did remove the turbo from the manifold, it made getting one of the bolts out much easier.

I had modified my exhaust earlier(when putting my turn down on) and had enough room to slide everything forward w/o interferance with anything.

The deer hunt was good. I got a 3 point(24" spread) small buck on tuesday. After the shoot the work begins. It only took 2 1/2 hours to get it to the truck after getting it.

You must remove the complete turbo from the engine for housing replacement. It is a good time to check bearings and oil blow by while doing the housing change over. Start spraying penetrating oil on the housing center section joint now if you are thinking about a housing change. DO NOT beat on the end of the exhaust wheel while trying to get the center section out of the exhaust housing it will damage the internal thrust bearing and will fail in a very short time. Use lots of penetrating oil and tap slightly on the exhaust housing it self to remove the center section with the compressor side attached.

The 16cm2 housing will have great deal of performance potential when the fuel has been turned up. (fuel plate) It gives a good all around boost-EGT enhancement for very few dollars. Be advised: It is not a good idea to ad a bigger housing without adding more fuel.

Pac-Brakes and others bolt on just as the on the stock 12cm2 housings. The exhaust system will move forward easiest by heating the big rod towards the front of the system after loosening the rest of the clamps on the entire system. The wastegated 14cm2 housing is also available and you will not need to move the exhaust system to use it. It is a basic bolt on housing and nothing else changes except lower EGTs. It is more expensive.

Were you guys able to reuse the turbo oil drain line gasket? TST says to get a new one. Not sure if one comes in the kit.

Did you guys clean the soot off the exhaust vanes?

Stab, I sent you a check thurs for a 16cm2

Hemi, Good kits come with gaskets! Yours does. It is not worth the trouble if the drain fitting leaks later on. Always use new gaskets. Soot can be cleaned off with a light brushing of solvent. (non steel brushes preferred) Do not use excessively and keep the turbine wheel down so the solvent or brake cleaner will wash away from the center housing bearings and split seals. Housings shipped promptly!

Does anyone know what the HP limit is (in terms of EGT'S) for the wastegated 14cm turbo? I tow mostly in the Rockies at high elevations and are concerned with high egt's when I install the TST#11(280/680) plate, which will be right on the edge in terms of egt's. See my signature for truck profile.
I know the 16cm housing will work for my intended application, but don't like the thought of increased turbo lag and smoke.

Life is to short to have to "lift" because of high egt's!

Back to the top... ... ...

Anybody out there have any first hand experience with TST#11(280hp/680tq) plate and the 14cm2 turbohousing? Was the 14cm2 housing able to keep the egt's under control at that level of HP? Thanks in advance!

Rebel,
I am going thru the process of eliminating the maximum power I can get while managing egt's with my 14cm. I am currently upgrading to 370 injectors and #5 plate. The 215's helped my egt's by 50 degrees and the Pscotty by 150 for same load/rpm/speed.

I am also gutting my cat and going to a straight pipe. Then, lean out the AFC to the max so I get good acceleration without leaving smoke signals for the enemy.

I have talked to Joe D. and he thinks that 370's, a number 5, and clean kitty should keep EGT's under control as well as managing the smoke signals. If I can not keep egt's under control I will go to a 16.

KOA also seemed to tune out the smoke while maintaining performance. Last I remember he he had a 12cm housing, 370's and #11.

Unfortunately there is not recipe for every application, so a little trile and error may be necessary for your situation. Unfortunately that my cost your a couple k's.
