Today was oil-changing day on our cars. As I was putting in new oil (Havoline in one, Mobil 1 in the other) I realized that I really don't like the wide-mouth openings that the oil companies put on the quart bottles now. It used to be that the smaller snout would fit in the oil-fill opening and hold the bottle upright while it drained. Now the bottle snout is too big to fit the hole. Fortunately, the shampoo-bottle funnel that threads perfectly into my 2002 24V also threads perfectly into our Ford Explorer.
Anybody have any idea why the oil guys decided that changing the bottles so that they wouldn't fit into most oil-fills was a good idea? The only thing I can think of is that they want us to buy funnels, most of which are plastic, and are made from the petroleum products they also sell.....
Any wide-mouth advantage I'm missing here???
Merry Christmas to all!
