I was wondering if you guys have anything to say about the underseat storage compartment for the Quad Cabs. I was thinking about adding one on my truck. Looked like it might be handy to keep stuff from rolling around back there, even though it's kinda small.

Thanks!

Eric

Been there, done that! It's real handy for all the junk that usually rolls around on the floor.

Which one are you referring to? I ordered one from the accessory catalog but didn't like it at all. No room and poorly built. The dealer was pretty good about taking it back and ordered in the open storage bin that is illustrated in the parts... . um, can't call it a catalog when it's on the computer.

Unfortunately, if you want to do the open bin the factory way, you must change the seat hinges on either side of the lower seat. These are *expensive*! If you are up to a little metalwork, you can probably fabricate your own brackets to fit.

Factory bracket part numbers are:

05012914AA and

05012915AA

These are for the '99 QC, but I doubt that they would be different for any other year. They are called brackets, but are, in fact, the whole hinge assemblies, right and left. They're easy to change.

I was afraid it might get in the way on my first truck, but it proves way more useful than I thought. I've had the factory one on every truck since. It's actually larger than it appears - I probably have 200 pounds of "stuff" under there from towing accessories to emergency supplies. Aftermarket type with a lock might be nice for security. I know a guy who copied the floorpan contour and made a storage bin out of wood - kinda handy if you want to make it fit something specific. Well worth it.

I love my factory unit and would'nt be without it, I saw the one in Geno's, is it like the factory unit??? I have a buddie that needs one... ... ... . Kevin

I can fit all sorts of crap in the factory one lol. I have 2 Reciever mounts, 3 wire adaptors, a tow strap, a bag of ford(Zip) ties, some ratchet straps and all kinds of other stuff that I never thought would fit back there lol. And somehow none of it ever rattles :D

Have the storage bin and holds a lot more than you would think. I would really like to see a folding deck like on the new 1500 QC, that would make the area real junk friendly. :D

Same here...

That is the same as what I have under my seat :D . The storage box works great, I have the factory storage. Sam

DITTO,,,,,,,,,,,,

I'm with the rest of the guys that have the factory unit. I wouldn't know what to do without it. Besides the jack, star lug wrench, hitch accesories, tie downs, jumper cables, saftey triangles, & fire extinguisher, there was even room for the 12 volt vacuum cleaner. :D :D :D

underseat storage.

I like mine, actually carry quite a bit of stuff under there, and I never here a rattle either. :)

... have the factory Mopar unit which I installed; fits great (easy to install), works great, and looks great (matching interior color); tried the open one from Geno's, and sent it right back - nowhere near as good as the Mopar one. JMHO.

I took my factory storage compartment out when I installed the Husky Liners for the back seat. Never put it back in. I can get a lot more stuff under the back seat without it. I organize my stuff in big canvas bank bags. I also like being able to pull stuff out from under the seat without fliping up the seat.

I sure love mine (Factory one), after not having one on my '98. 5 I sure make use of the one on my current truck. I have tire chains, flares, tiedown straps, receiver hitch, 2 quarts of oil, fuel filter, flashlight, and a few rags under there :)

What I like most about the OEM unit is you can easily reach in and grab items stored in the front cubbies without raising the seat. Very handy when there is junk on the seat or passengers in back and you need to get something.

Thanks!

Hey guy's,

I've been away from my computer for a few days. Thanks to everyone who answered. From your replies, it looks like the factory unit along with the seat hinge swap out is just what the doctor oredered. :)

Thanks again!

Eric

Don't forget

It works great to keep the 38-06 and a couple boxes of shells. The center console is a perfect fit for my 45 and 2 extra clips, keep extra shells in the glove box.

You should see the look on the guy's faces at the dealer when I drop of my truck and take all the guns out before I leave.

Thats what I call theft deturent. :D

Definitely like mine, the only problem I see is if you ever haul anything back there where you put the seat up, you have your stuff falling all over the place. But i suppose that's what a pick up bed is for... :)
