All,

I am plumbing my RASP system today.

First time working with Aeroquip aluminum fittings and Pushlock hose.

It seems the fittings could loosen up due to vibration.

Is there a sealant or thread lock that should be used with these?

The -AN style fittings are compression fittings and require no thread sealant as they seal at the compression joint not the threads. I do use a light engine assembly lubricant when assemblying them and they have remained tight. As said above, do not over tighten!!

Now, when you use NPT fittings you need thread sealant. Do not use the dry silicon tape as diesel will eventually eat it away. I think I used something called Permatex. As long as it says safe for oils, gas and diesel you are ok.

Thanks

I got a fuel line kit from Scotty. He supplied "Gasoila" thread sealant soft-set with teflon. it's a product of Federal Process Corporation.

Ditto on what the others have said. I've put together many an Aeroquip hose assembly while in the CG. Only thing I will add is to keep any sort of sealant off the first few threads of the NPT. This just helps prevent any of that from getting into your system. And definately stay away from teflon tape! Keep that in the house for any plumbing projects :)

Thread sealant

Loctite makes a thread sealant that works well on both npt pipe fittings and compression and AN fittings. I always use it as added insurance especially on something I don't want to have to mess with again like the fuel module in our fuel tanks. I also used it on all the fittings I used to install my FASS system. Nothing has come loose or leaked.

I have been working hydro and fuel systems (helping with R2'ing motors) on aircraft for about 16 years in the military. We never use Loctite on AN fittings. We do safetywire everything, though. Safetywiring (. 032) the fitting is the best way to secure it. Haven't researched to see if you can get them on the economy with pre-drilled holes. You might be able to drill them yourself, too. The bevel on each of the mated ends create the seal. If it leaks, the fitting needs to be replaced.
