Serial #'s For HT3B??

I'm installing my new guages and wondered if anyone knows the brand of red thread sealant used by Cummins for their sending units and heater line connectors? Got too many connections to make so I can't afford a leak. Thanks, Mike

It is called Vibraseal®. It is good for first time applications IF the vendor applied enough material. Most do not apply the recommended amount.

For a second time or for peace of mind on the first use, apply a liberal dose of PST pressing completely into the threads and staying back at least a turn to avoid getting the gunk in the system.

How does Loctite taste?

Cheap old Permatex #2 does fine. I have never been able to finish a tube of it

Leaks and oozing make it so nasty that eventually I get too embarassed and throw it away, buy a new tube.

Last I looked, Loctite does not recommend applying Permatex gasket formulas over Vibraseal.

Permatex #2 alone is good as a thread sealant. Aviation formula is much better.

Obviously you've never done much mechanical work on your wife's vehicle while she is hecling you while your fixing a leak she created after driving over a parking stop in a lot. The antifreeze taste is similar yet not as smoothe. Kinda like pure gasoline that has set out in the sunn for weeks in the summer. Old Milwaukee comes to mind. Thanks fellas. John, Minnesota is the best kept secret in this country. Joe, I have to get out there to visit my sister in Reno to see the beautiful land of NV.

Loctite PTFE/Anaerobic Pipe Thread Sealant

Loctite makes some Anaerobic pipe thread goop that is bulletproof. Look it up to make sure you are using it for the correct application. I use 565 on everyhthing metal.

You can get it, and other neat stuff from

http://www.mcmaster.com/

They have it listed under "Fastening and Sealing" about 2/3rds of the way down the listing.

Click on "Thread Sealants"

I put the link below, it may or may not work...

I spoke with a LocTite rep on the phone one day for about an hour regarding thread sealant for diesel under low pressure. After a while... he wouldn't recommend anything for me including 565. He never was sure about the diesel part of it.

Thus I just used #2 Permatex per illflem and haven't had a leak since. I would however like to try #1. I think its the same but gets semi solid after a little while.

Some folks use never-seize as a sealant. The can says it seals up hydraulic fittings. Never tried it however.

Sealant garble.

I dug up the technical data sheet for Loctite 565. I also put the link below for anybody interested. I still feel that it is a great product and is 100% OK to use with any oil, fuel or antifreeze. The only weakness is break fluid.

On the data sheet there is a list of Chemical / Solvent Resistance test results.

"Technical Data Sheet Product 565
