Just started the truck after stopping to talk to someone. Truck was warm. The engine reved up a little at first and the check engine light came on. I have to admit it might have been the edge of my boot on the accelerator.



It threw

p-1693 & p-1689



can someone look them up for me

I can't look up the codes here, but I have found that it will set a code if the truck is rolling and you turn the key on but don't start it. Or if it rolls and you bump the starter and then change your mind and don't start it, you will find a check engine light.

As I was expecting the codes cleared themselves. This is not the first time this happened. You would think I would buy a factory service manual by this point but I guess I am a slow learner.

P 1693 = insufficient voltage to your IAT sensor. Run a search on IAT and you should find cleaning instructions. Carb cleaner worked for me.

Well it has been over a year since I checked my IAT but what is p-1693. I now have two different answers

Ted, 1693 is the ECM indicating a code has been set. The 1693 says there is an interrupt between the ECM and PCM. The VA may be doing that. Usually it will set a MAP sensor voltage too high or low but since it is on the CAN bus that is controlling the pump, the 1693 will be set. It usually clears itself after three good starts and no problem. Enough acronyms for you?

That is what I thought but I was a little confused on the IAT issue griggsd said. I do not understand how a box (comp in my case) would interfer with the IAT.

It won't interfere. Like I said, the VA will usually throw a code indicating a MAP over/undervoltage problem and then disappear.

Apologies for any confusion with IAT. When my truck sets this code periodically, a quick cleaning of the IAT sensor prevents it from reoccurring for a few months. Now you have me wondering if my fueling box may also be causing it , as described by Ted.

the code in the computer from the fueling boxes I don't believe tend to turn on the check engine light or at least I have not had that happen. It might be the case but I have not seen it. There is an IAT thread running right now: http://216.235.147.117/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=61861



i think I am finally going to replace mine soon.

Ted, The VA will cause the MAP sensor code to set on the engine. Firsthand experience where it happened several times and finally a great diesel mechanic from Atlanta explained it was my box causing the error. He was correct.
