Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Throttle Cable Adjustment

My 95 3500 seems to have lost its MoJo. When I kick down the throttle to downshift, I have an automatic transmission, it doesn't downshift. I used to get 20+ pounds of boost and that too is gone.



I suspected the cable from the foot pedal to the injection pump and found that there were a half dozen washers at the foot pedal end, seemingly installed to make up for a stretched cable, and no obvious way to adjust the cable at the injection pump end.



Does one simply replace the cable when it stretches out? Should I be looking elsewhere to solve my problem(s)?

Have you checked your intercooler boots and tested the intake system for a leak? Also, when was your last valve adjustment and fuel filter change?

To check for streched cable mash the pedal to the floor, put stick on pedal to hold it there, and then check for movement in the linkage, at the bell crank. If you can not shim the cable any further than it has already been done, replace it. But check out the tightness of all the components and then go from there. Was the recall done on it? It was #970, replaced the original cable because of fraying at the bell crank connection.
