Need some help fellows. Changing the throttle cable on a 96 and am not having much luck getting the plastic retainer to lock into the firewall for the fuel petal connection. Its behind the brake booster and can't seem to get enough pressure on the cable to push the retainer through. Am I going to have to remove the brake booster? Thanks for any help!

Michael

I've never had to remove the booster but if you do it's easy, just remove two nuts and it will swing towards the fender easily, no need to undo any lines.

As I recall it's a bit of a job, but persistance will pay off.

I had trouble locking the accelerator end into the pedal.

If memory serves well the hardest part is getting your hand in a position to push it hard enough. I got big mits too and got the thing snapped in w/o taking anything out.

If I remember right, it was a pain when I replaced it many years ago.

This is covered under a recall... . dealer may have done it for nothing to little. It is part of a NHTSA safety recall. You should be able to turn in your receipts to Dodge for re-imbursement. Reminds me, I have to find my receipt from years ago and get my $50 or $100 bucks back.

It only took Dodge 4 1/2 years to admit they had a crappy throttle cable design that could cause injuries!!!

Goog luck.

Hey, thanks for all the advise fellows. a friend stopped in and I had him push while I went under the dash a guided. Two minutes!! Guess two people are better than one.

Michael

I managed to get mine in by myself, but like many jobs on the Dodge I had to "donate" some blood!

Go get the paper work for your 65 bucks!
